Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this role, RWD Senior Scientist Oncology , are to:

  • Perform programming, testing, mapping and documentation for RWD projects to inform Oncology IEG plans and meet other business needs;
  • Build new and improve existing solutions to support use of RWD and RWE generation across Oncology global and market functions;
  • Work with observational study teams to provide technical expertise to ensure RWD specifications and statistical analysis plans are designed with scientific rigor and that appropriate research methods are used to answer the research or business question;
  • Critically review the analytic approach and results on an ongoing basis considering design assumptions and limitations;
  • Utilize internal databases such as electronic medical records, charts, healthcare claims, patient reported outcomes, registries, specialty pharmacy, safety, and publicly available data to execute in- house analytics projects, data mining, secondary data analysis and digital solution support;
  • Conduct quality control measures and maintain process standards to ensure integrity of data and project design;
  • Track and triage potential data quality and coding issues to improve efficiencies in RWD use across the Oncology organization;
  • Collaborate with RWE team, other internal teams, external partners and key thought leaders from design through completion as well as any publication support if required;
  • Conduct periodic reviews of external databases for relevance to the Bayer Oncology portfolio and appropriateness for addressing RWD needs;
  • Partner with other data scientists and analysts at Bayer to form a learning community of RWD users capable of building processes and knowledge sharing capabilities;
  • Identify external opportunities to drive innovation and identify best practices in Oncology RWD analysis;
  • Develop strategies and processes to create and maintain knowledge bases and algorithms to increase data usability by internal stakeholders;
  • Lead RWD and analytics onboarding sessions with new data scientists; 
  • This role will be located in Whippany, NJ. Relocation assistance may be offered for qualified candidates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree quantitative discipline, STEM or related field such as Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Economics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or other relevant field;
  • At least five years of experience and practical knowledge of statistical/analytic software (strong experience with SAS is required);
  • At least five years of experience working with RWD to generate RWE;
  • Experience writing programming code to conduct statistical analysis for observational research using large healthcare data within the life sciences industry;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced research methods used in observational studies, particularly approaches for skewed distributions, clustered data and causal inference;
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of analytic work using large healthcare data to ensure delivery of high quality work products within agreed timelines;
  • Analytical skills and ability to apply routine and advanced methodologies to generate accurate and reliable evidence;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team of quantitative scientists and professionals from other disciplines;
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving attitude;
  • Enjoy finding innovative and efficient solutions to challenging problems and working on a wide range of projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to lead and manage other’s work;
  • Business fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oncology observational research experience is strongly preferred;
  • Good understanding of drug development process.
