Job Description

At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. As a Hardware Research Scientist, you will collaborate with other research scientists and engineers in Meta Reality Labs to develop hardware technologies primarily in the domain of electromyography wristbands. In doing so, you will contribute to the development of next-generation AR/VR products and prototypes.

Hardware Research Scientist, EMG Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research scientists and software & hardware engineers in the design and implementation of measurement methods (tools, protocols, analysis) to quantify and characterize the device-body interface.
  • Design and run user studies in collaboration with scientists and the user studies team.
  • Analyze quantitative data from sensors, e.g., motion capture systems, force sensors, accelerometers, etc., recorded from experiments to draw insights relevant to EMG wristband design and performance.
  • Develop software for experiments with Python, or MatLab.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • PhD in computational neuroscience, biomedical engineering, statistics, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience in a research/software/data engineering role with emphasis on applied statistics and/or machine learning, or equivalent academic experience.
  • Familiarity with programming languages used in the above domains such as Python, Matlab.
  • Understanding of basic concepts in statistics, including but not limited to random variable, estimator, expected value, variance, regression, linear models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with user-focused research in areas such as neuroscience, human factors, or user experience.
  • Graduate coursework and/or degree in one of the relevant domains listed above.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages used in the above domains such as Matl
  • ab, R, Python, C++, and/or C# (Unity).
  • Basic understanding of sensorimotor processes.
  • Prior experience with biosignals including EMG, EEG, ECOG, electrical impedance and time and frequency domain signal processing techniques.
