Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in suitable scientific/engineering discipline related to remote sensing, electromagnetic observables, or target tracking.
  • Experience with advanced AI/ML techniques, and integrating their outputs with applications running on various platforms
  • Experience with AI/ML domain programming languages (e.g. Python, MatLab, etc.)
  • Current Top Secret clearance

We are searching for a Remote Sensing Artificial Intelligence Research Scientist to join our exceptional team. This position will be working across several Lockheed Martin Business Areas (BAs) to enhance remote sensing missions by exploring and applying AI techinques!

  • As a Remote Sensing AI Research Scientist, you will work with guidance from project leaders and technical leads to:
  • Apply principles of remote sensing to develop new technologies and address customer mission needs
  • Investigate, develop, implement and test AI/ML techniques to enhance remote sensing missions
  • Determine software methods to best acquire and execute knowledge
  • Be responsible for various phases of developing and maintaining AI-based software from requirements generation, software design and development to integration, testing, troubleshooting and debugging, and implementation
  • Review test outcomes, conduct troubleshooting, and work to debug issues
  • Interface with other teams involved in the development lifecycle for remote sensing systems and information processing

You should have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information, technical decisions and issues to both highly technical and non-technical colleagues. We are also looking for the ability to build and maintain relationships, collaborate with others, and manage interpersonal dynamics. You should also be comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.

Desired skills

We are looking for someone with demonstrated proficiency or mastery of at least several of the desired skills, as well as the interest, motivation and ability to learn and grow in the other desired skill areas:

  • Machine learning, human machine interfacing
  • Neuromorphic computing
  • Experience in advanced data analytics
  • Tracking algorithm development
  • Scientific, data, and information visualization; and data exploitation
  • Electromagnetic observables phenomenology including experience with target signatures and multi and hyperspectral phenomenology
  • In-depth understanding of radiometry
  • Experience in remote sensing, atmospheric attenuation and propagation, scene modeling, technical intelligence concerns, background radiation including cloud physics and radiometry
  • EOIR sensor system technical experience including performance modeling, system development, focal plane array physics, requirements generation, signal and processing
  • Mathematical modeling of physical systems
  • Mission architecture analysis
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a geographically distributed team environment.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation and overall communication skills for reports, proposals, technical presentations, and interaction with customers, team members, suppliers, and academic/industry collaborators.

Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
