Description:Lockheed Martin is looking for a mid to seniorlevel AI Machine Learning Research Engineer to join our Autonomous Systems business in Littleton, Colorado. At this location our Autonomous Systems business has experience in research and application of independent decisionmaking capabilities on robotic vehicles and systems. Employees focus on three core competencies — perception, planning, and control — to create robust and dependable products across its platforms.

In this exciting and groundbreaking role, the research engineer will have the opportunity to lead the development of various AI and Machine Learning applications across a few very interesting product lines.

  • The work will include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Collaborative Autonomy, Inquisitive ISR, Vehicle Autonomy, and other cutting edge AI/ML applications.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to focus on research & development of technologies that enable and advance semi and fully autonomous systems for both defense and commercial customers.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to work directly with our Chief Engineer on key AI/ML development initiatives.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to serve as the algorithm expert working to enhance machine learning and robotic algorithms.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to investigate, optimize, and apply uptodate knowledge on modern AI research with latest machine learning and deep learning techniques.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to develop AI/ML/DL algorithm implementation requirements.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to develop prototypes and will be involved in the inception of ideas and will drive the development cycles from research to test of prototypes.
  • Key responsibilities will include researching and discovering improvements to machine learning and robotic algorithms and driving advancements in techniques used in signal processing, computer vision (CV), and control systems.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to interface with other teams involved in the development lifecycle for perception, mission and motion planning, simulation and modeling, testing, etc.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced engineers.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to attend industry conferences and to keep uptodate on related industry best practices and technological advancements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree in a technical field.
  • A track record of research excellence in the autonomy/AI domain is required.
  • Experience performing research within the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Leaning (ML) and exploring related technologies is required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with developing, optimizing, and applying algorithms is required.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning frameworks, theory, and practice and deep learning toolsets (eg. TensorFlow PyTorch, Caffe, Keras, etc.) is required.
  • Experience designing and implementing ML techniques aimed at solving specific problems is required.
  • Strong programming skills (eg Java, Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++, CUDA) with ability to transition between languages as needed is required.
  • Strong communications skills are required.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and across teams and organizations is required.
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance is required.

Desired Skills:

  • An advanced degree in a technical field is preferred
  • Knowledge of application areas (computer vision, natural language processing, signal processing, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with applications in supervised learning (eg. classification, regression, etc.), unsupervised learning (eg. clustering, dimension reduction, generative modeling, etc.) and reinforcement learning (eg. modelbased or modelfree methods) is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated history of building prototypes in rapid prototyping environment is desired.
  • Prior experience working in a multidisciplinary research team setting is desired.
  • Experience working with product teams to integrate ideas or transfer technology into products is desired.
