About The Job

Supporting the Disney Advertising Sales, the Audience Modeling and Data Science team are subject matter experts in each of the following areas:

  • Creating and optimizing audience classification models that enable us to predict and target strategic audience attributes, including brand affinity, purchase behavior, and psychographics
  • Integrating a broad suite of complex datasets, from digital event logs to sporting event metadata, into carefully curated and reusable data models
  • Publishing audience attributes across an array of ad-serving endpoints
  • Working cross-functionally to ensure our data product is aligned with the goals of each strategic sales vertical and the business as a whole

We’re looking for an intellectually curious, business-savvy, analytical powerhouse to join The Walt Disney Company’s DMED segment as a data scientist on the ad sales team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving improvements across DMED’s portfolio of offerings by using data. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, you will develop, drive, and oversee new strategies to ensure the growth of the business and the overall bottom line.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and expand machine learning processes, enabling training, and scoring at scale.
  • Develop and own data processing pipelines, stitching together streaming, advertising, and other feeds at the terabyte scale.
  • Transform complex data relationships into a consumable and intuitive data model.
  • Implement cutting-edge authoring, orchestration, and monitoring tools.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in data science or data engineering, including a fluency in ML processes and how they relate to underlying datasets.
  • Strong experience in Google Cloud, including excellent proficiency in BigQuery or similar SQL-based big data warehouse.
  • Solid experience in Python, with a demonstrated ability to read, write, audit, and document code.
  • Ability to write detailed technical requirements.
  • Innovative thinker capable of operating both in a strategic capacity (big-picture perspective, asks why) and a hands-on/execution capacity (detail-oriented, conscientious)

Nice To Haves

  • Apache Beam and Apache Spark experience
  • Experience in data process orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Snowpipe).
  • Proficiency in maintaining team projects in Git and GitHub
  • Experience developing internal APIs.

Basic Education

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, MIS, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or related analytical field

Additional Information

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $136,038 to $182,490 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
