Job Description

The Disney AI Character Studio creatively applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology to produce immersive story experiences that enable a new generation of fans and guests to interact, talk, and connect with some of the most beloved characters in the world. The Studio is comprised of a cross-disciplinary group of designers, writers, artists, and software engineers. Its charter includes developing new character interaction paradigms, the production of complete character experiences, and the development and support of a robust, scalable, cloud-based AI entertainment platform supporting real-time AI-driven applications serving millions of concurrent users.

The studio develops mobile, VR, AR, mixed reality, consumer product, streaming media, and in-park custom physically situated applications built on a core platform, independently and in partnership with 3rd party developers. The team focuses on commercialization of new AI products and services for the segment, generating revenue through new product offerings. In addition, the team is tasked with supporting these experiences and evolving them as the market grows, requiring ongoing content and feature updates created by in-house and 3rd party teams led by a Live Operations group within the Studio.

The Role:

The Disney AI Character Studio is seeking an experienced and highly skilled AI Character User Experience Designer to join our team. AI Character User Experience Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge consumer experiences utilizing machine learning, artificial intelligence, game design, and computer graphics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user experience design and creativity, as well as extensive knowledge of storytelling.

You Will:

• Collaborate with the creative and technology teams to conceptualize and design new consumer experiences applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, game design, and computer graphics.
• Develop and implement new algorithms and technologies to build unique and engaging AI characters.
• Work with the production team to create and maintain a database of AI character models, animations, personas, and related character definitions.
• Create and maintain documentation for AI character and experience development processes.
• Continuously research and evaluate emerging AI technologies and techniques to ensure the AI Character Studio remains at the forefront of the industry.

You Will Have:

• 7+ years of experience in the entertainment, AI, video game, or animation industry.
• Strong understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence, game design, and computer graphics.
• Expertise in user experience design and creativity.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and Java.
• Experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
• Knowledge of storytelling and its application in character development.
• Experience with data analytics and machine learning algorithms.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, design and media arts, or a related field.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale is $149,240 to $180,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
