Job Description

The Senior Principal Clinical Data Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and quality control of clinical data flow pipelines and reporting frames for business partners’ individual, and drug project groups of, major and/or complex phase I-IV clinical trials, the provision of data engineering consultancy services, the training and mentoring of other data engineers, and supporting operational excellence.

Your responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the integrity of clinical data flow pipelines and reporting frames for major and/or complex global clinical drug development programs.
  • Act as an expert data engineering functional lead on business partners' drug project teams. Participate in drug project team meetings.
  • Determine an efficient drug project data engineering strategy that utilizes business partners' standards and procedures.
  • Develop standard and project-level RESTful web service specifications for use in the construction of data flow pipelines and reporting frames across all drug projects (standard) and within a drug project (project-level), respectively.
  • Mentor data engineers in the functional expertise required for project support.
  • Lead the design and construction of data flow pipelines and reporting frames for the creation of statistical outputs for clinical study reports, regulatory submissions (e.g., Summary of Clinical Safety, Summary of Clinical Efficacy, Risk Management Plan/safety update), responses to health authority questions, publications, and market promotions.
  • Ensure the quality control of all data flow pipelines, reporting frames, specifications, web services and statistical outputs within a study project.
  • Ensure that data engineering-related documents are comprehensive, exhaustive, consistent, and comply with Biometrics’ and business partners' standards, by reviewing case report forms, statistical analysis plans, data structures specifications, data flow pipeline specifications, reporting frame specifications and web service specifications.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • BA/BS/MS in computer science, mathematics, statistics, health sciences or related field.
  • At least 11 years’ work experience in a data engineering role (eight years for MS computer science graduates).
  • Full-stack Developer; an expert knowledge of at least one, and a good knowledge of the remainder, of the following technologies: functional or object-oriented programming language - e.g., Java, Python, R, C++, Swift, Rust, Golang, Elixir; Database/Cache/Storage – e.g., Mongodb, noSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgresSQL, DynamoDB, Oracle Database/GlusterFS, Redis, Memcached; Data Science – e.g., Jupyter Notebook, Theano, TensorFlow, Pytorch, Classification, Naive Bayes, Random Forest, KNN
  • Proven experience in development of RESTful web services with high programming efficiency; strong programming and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience as a strong collaborator on data engineering projects.
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to data engineering (e.g. CFR 21 Part 11; Good Clinical Practice).
  • Enjoyment working in a co-located team environment.
  • Face-to-face communication prioritization.
