The US Oncology Strategic Data, Digital and Innovation (SDDI) organization is the Novartis engine for achieving best in class Healthcare provider (HCP) experience and transformative digital patient engagement. The Enterprise Analytics and Data Science group within SDDI is seeking a highly motivated principal data scientist in machine learning to push the frontiers in HCP segmentation and digital patient engagement. The data scientist will be working at the intersection of Data, Digital, Analytics, and Precision Medicine to reimagine cancer care through the personalization of engagement and experience.

This position can be based remotely anywhere in the U.S. (there may be some exceptions based on legal entity registration). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • You will build predictive models to engage physicians & patients using the appropriate digital channels.
  • You will develop attribution models to measure performance of digital channels.
  • Provide machine learning technical leadership through a proactive, unbossed approach to a community of analytics professionals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across data, digital, franchise analytics, precision medicine, vendors and support organizations.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the field and mentor data scientists.
  • Take a hands-on role and deliver on highly visible projects
  • Bring a “can-do” attitude and teamwork, and inspire others on culture change

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • An advanced degree (master’s or doctoral) in a computational field, including but not limited to Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Genomics, Applied Mathematics, all relevant engineering disciplines
  • Five or more years of experience in building predictive machine learning models either in the commercial or biomedical space.
  • Previous experience in either pharma, biotech, healthcare or consumer products.
  • Expertise in R or Python. Advanced knowledge of querying languages. Knowledge of Auto-ML platforms such as Dataiku or DataRobot
  • Ability to tell a story with data using visualization tools.
  • This is a remote position. Ability to travel up to 20% is required. No relocation available.
  • Desired Skills/experience
  • Experience in Oncology data sets
  • You must have published papers in top general domain or biomedical informatics
