As a Senior Expert Data Scientist within the PCS Predictive Safety Data Exploration team, you will be responsible for advancing translational safety data science and supporting AI/ML initiatives through close collaboration with the global data science community, key stakeholders and external collaborators. The candidate will drive the use of data and data science techniques to develop and incorporate high-value insights into strategic and data-driven initiatives that enhance our predictive safety capabilities and enable superior drug design. The role requires significant toxicology- and/or chemistry-based data science expertise and a passion to elevate the role of AI in translational drug safety.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conceive, design, and execute translational safety data analyses spanning in silico, in vitro and non-clinical and clinical studies, applying advanced analytical and ML methods as required
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional safety data science collaborations with all Discovery and Development partners to support the early de-risking of compounds, drug targets, and therapeutic modalities
  • An ability to contextualize and critically evaluate the value of data science/AI/ML activities and models to stakeholders and leadership
  • Provide subject matter expertise for multimodal, non-clinical and clinical safety data analyses to inform predictive safety assessment strategies
  • Work expeditiously as a member of highly matrixed project teams with diverse membership and expertise
  • Provide matrix leadership, mentorship and training for team members, including potential supervision of PhD or Master students
  • Undertake general project management of data science work (planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, quality, compliance)

This position will be located at Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

What you will bring to the role:

  • PhD or MD or equivalent experience in data science, computational toxicology, machine learning, cheminformatics or related field
  • Proficient in scientific programming languages (e.g. Python, R)
  • Five or more years of experience in analyzing large biological datasets in a drug discovery/development or relevant academic setting
  • Competency in complex data capture, harmonization, integration, visualization, and analytics (including handling of in silico, in vitro, in vivo animal model and patient-derived data)
  • High intrinsic motivation to develop novel therapeutics for patients
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate analytical concepts for diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Proven record as a team player and leader
  • Broad knowledge of chemistry and an ability to carry out read-across analyses would be an advantage
  • Prior experience in predictive toxicology and the ADME Sciences would be advantageous

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $130,400 and $195,600/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
