The US Oncology Strategic Data, Digital and Innovation (SDDI) organization is the Novartis engine for achieving best in class Healthcare provider (HCP) experience and transformative digital patient engagement. The Enterprise Analytics and Data Science group within SDDI is seeking a highly motivated principal data scientist to advance Next Generation Physician and Patient Engagement for the Hematology or Solid Tumor Disease Area. The principal data scientist will be working with the Brands, Franchise Analytics, Data, Digital and Precision Medicine teams to personalize physician and patient journeys using machine learning and data science.

This position can be based remotely anywhere in the U.S. (there may be some exceptions based on legal entity registration). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager

What will you be responsible for?

  • You will collaborate with the Hematology or Solid Tumor brand, franchise analytics and digital teams to develop use cases to deploy machine learning based predictive models.
  • You will co-create with the machine learning team the next generation predictive models for dynamic targeting of physicians & patients for the Hematology or solid Tumor disease area. The models will produce brand specific HCP target lists, digital channels and content for engaging with physicians and patients
  • You will guide the machine learning team in creating attribution models to measure performance of the predictive models and digital channels for the Hematology or Solid Tumor disease area.
  • You will project manage activities across brand, data, digital and franchise analytics teams to provide advanced analytics and modeling solutions to complex business questions.
  • You will conceptualize, pilot and deploy end to end advance analytic products across the brands.
  • Provide Data Science technical leadership through a proactive, unbossed approach to community of analytics professionals.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in machine learning and data science.
  • Take a hands-on role and deliver on highly visible projects
  • Bring a “can-do” attitude and teamwork, and inspire others on culture change

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role?

  • An advanced degree (master’s or doctoral) in a computational field, including but not limited to Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Genomics, Applied Mathematics, all relevant engineering disciplines
  • Five or more years of hands-on experience in building predictive machine learning models either in the commercial or biomedical space.
  • Previous experience in either pharma, biotech, healthcare or consumer products.
  • Expertise in R or Python. Advanced knowledge of querying languages. Knowledge of Auto-ML platforms such as Dataiku or DataRobot
  • Ability to manage complex projects using agile/SCRUM methods.
  • Analytic product management experience
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills. Ability to explain complex analysis and outcomes to a community of marketing and sales professionals.
