21st Century evolution and innovation in digital technologies, data and advanced analytics is rapidly evolving the healthcare environment! Novartis has embraced a bold strategy to drive a company-wide digital transformation. This includes the development and implementation of enterprise-wide Data Science & AI strategies that leverages data and digital to develop and lead a strategic digital portfolio that delivers commercial value to Novartis within 3 years. This will drive deployment of digital and data technologies and ways of working to achieve enterprise-wide strategic objectives.

The purpose of the Head DSAI Commercial Innovation Execution of Novartis is to lead the execution of novel data science programs across the enterprise in collaboration with the sponsoring executive(s) in respective businesses and divisions. Define strategy and devise both vertical (specific to a particular business) and horizontal (across a number of businesses) programs that bring data science and artificial intelligence to advance Novartis’ agenda regarding impactful adoption of advanced analytics tools and resulting insights. Oversee or lead multiple, cross-functional DSAI programs in line with Novartis’ digital strategy and ensuring rapid results generation of respective initiatives while enabling Novartis’s functions to sustainably own and embed DSAI innovations.

• Set the DSAI Innovation aspirations for Novartis and translate that into a tangible roadmap for the next 3-5 years and beyond
• Closely collaborate with Novartis Commercial divisions at senior stakeholder level to identify synergies and opportunities along DSAI products and solutions
• Provide visionary leadership in the development and management of DSAI innovations
• Drive the implementation across functions and geographies in Novartis and track the success
• Work with key stakeholders in Novartis Executive Committee to enable their “DSAI readiness” and informed decision making
• Represent DSAI team in the leadership teams of BU (i.e. Global Product Strategy, Global commercial execution, Franchise LT etc.)
• Respond to or identify business challenges within Novartis Commercial which could be resolved by DSAI innovative solutions and coordinate the solution
• Translate BU needs/ opportunities into analytics challenges and ensure that the DSAI execution teams is able to translate the analytics outcomes into business relevant actions and impact
• Provide direct and indirect leadership to the projects teams that comprises of members from multiple cross functional teams in Novartis
• Embed operational excellence and customer centricity in the execution of the transformative projects across the enterprise
• Ensure that the centralized DSAI team is collaborating with BU analytics teams and embedding functional excellence in the respective Bus
• Support BU’s to set up their own advanced analytics teams within commercial function
• Lead make vs buy decisions on Analytics for transformative projects. If external vendor is needed, the DSAI execution team would manage the interactions with the vendors.
• Monitor changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain competitive advantage
• Identify new business models in the market (products and services) that may be a model for Novartis and push their adoption in the division
• Actively identify and start collaborations with external parties (e.g. start-up’s) which can also be exploratory in nature
• Drive initiatives and inspire colleagues (individually or in groups) to become more digital, more agile and more customer-centric
• Select and implement suitable technology to streamline all internal operations and help optimize their strategic benefits
• Attract, retain and develop the best talent within and outside of the organization, build and coordinate a small capable team to develop solutions on how we innovate, sell and operate

Minimum Requirements

• Significant experience in heading innovative and forward looking department of a larger or-ganization or similar managerial role
• First-hand experience in developing and delivering digital/DSAI strategies/transformations
• A strong strategic and business mindset and excellent organizational and leadership skills
• Passion for understanding emerging technologies with pragmatic insight into where those technologies can be integrated into business solutions
• Deep industry knowledge and leadership experience in at-least two domains (commercial, de-velopment, research, manufacturing and/or business services)
• Track record of setting up sizable high performance analytics organization from scratch
• Track record of operational excellence, especially implementing enterprise wide analytics solu-tions in complex matrix organizations
• Ability to balance requirements, manage expectations, and drive effective results using a pro-active attitude towards identifying and resolving issues
• Savviness in innovative digital trends, e.g. IoT, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Net-works etc.
• Tested capability to successfully lead teams and projects, often with tight time constraints
• Experience of leading a substantial Advanced Analytics organization desired
• Experience in global product launches, P&L Management highly desirable
• Deep understanding of data sources in Pharma industry
• Entrepreneurial spirit with can-do, pro-active attitude
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Recognized as analytics thought leader in at least one domain of Pharma
