Develops and contributes to the development and validation of data processing applications and performs data analysis activities required for the successful launch and execution of biomarker solutions in CLIA lab across technology applications. Responsible for leading a team of data science and bioinformatics team members. Designs, creates, executes, and formulates and integrated analytical approach for, AI and machine learning algorithms and automate processes for reducing effort and time for repeated use. Manage & empower team and provide guidance and operational aspects

Your responsibilities:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of statistical methods such as meta-analysis, Bayesian methods, bagging/boosting, variable selection methods (e.g., PCA, elastic net, random forest), design of experiments
  • Strong programming skills in R. Demonstrated knowledge of data visualization and exploratory analysis.
  • Familiarity with statistical and analytical methods for genetics and omics data analysis, and working knowledge of high dimensional exploratory biomarker platforms (e.g., next generation sequencing, flow cytometry, etc.)
  • Experience in the application of bioinformatics pipeline development
  • Serves as subject matter expert for software development and/or statistical analysis activities of clinical testing from concept to completion.
  • Research and co-develop with supervisor new algorithms, methods, statistical models and business models and providing insight into structured and unstructured data, support the evaluation of the need of technology and novel scientific software, visualization tools and new approaches to computation to increase efficiency and quality
  • High level of independence working on multiple projects.
  • Critical thinking, initiation, management of success and failure of complex projects.
  • Develops timelines and work flows to ensure successful execution of assigned projects and processes.
  • Makes recommendations for scientific processes and drives projects.
  • Contributes to the meeting of functional goals and resolution of varied issues under general direction
  • Identifies obstacles and recommend solutions or improvements to existing departmental, or functional, scientific or technical processes or programs.
  • Independently prioritizes multiple projects and work load. Will provide direction to more junior associates in the lab.
  • Drives the launch of new application software and manages projects of strategic importance.
  • Provides key scientific knowledge to drive success of strategic activities. Effects of decisions are long-lasting and heavily influence the department goals.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

  • Participates in the design, development and validation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis pipelines or other software applications required for analytical test systems
  • Develops and contributes to the validation of applications to support workflows and storage of molecular and clinical data as well as the integration with LIMS systems
  • Provides bioinformatics and data analysis support for assay development and/or validation activities
  • Assists in execution of routine testing for clinical specimens using established data analysis methodologies
  • Performs NGS data analysis for SNP calling, structural variant calling, and indel analyses
  • Performs QC and participate in change control activities as needed
  • Maintains accurate records related to all work with software development and validation, and data analysis activities and project results
  • Train and assist new staff with technical and operational procedures
  • Navigate and troubleshoot complex problems that may adversely affect test performance/results and directs others to resolve problems
  • Analyze complex data for trends making recommendations to more senior scientific staff
  • Attends networking events and keeps abreast of scientific advances.
  • May manage, perhaps through subordinates, the coordination of the activities of a functional group with the responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. Generally manages exempt employees
  • BS/MS/PhD in Data Science, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field.
  • 3-5 years experience required with a PhD. 8 years, preferably 10 years, of directly relevant experience required with MS. 12 years experience required with BS.
