Job Description

About the role:

At eBay, Trust is a critical global function tasked with ensuring the safety of the millions of buyers and sellers on the eBay marketplace. This includes developing best in class detection & prevention systems and protection policies to shield customers from those who attempt to commit fraud on our platform.

eBay’s Trust team is fast-paced, dynamic, and proactive. In this role, you will focus on three key areas:

  • Improving the buyer and seller experience across the safety measures the Trust team puts in place: that means ensuring that the end-to-end experience and tools the team uses to prevent bad actors from causing issues have a minimal impact and are clear and easy for our good customers to navigate
  • Protecting our sellers from the experience of bad acting buyers, which includes detection and prevention of scams, return policy violations and any form of virtual shoplifting
  • Ensuring Trust is effectively supporting and enabling the strategies of our global business

This role will partner closely with key leaders in Category, Product and Risk teams across the company to inspire and earn the trust of our buyers and sellers.

Key Responsibilities:

Protecting our sellers from bad acting buyers

  • Refining our policies to minimize the potential for abuse and identifying strategic areas where eBay will invest to protect sellers from abuse
  • Partner with our Data Science team and third parties to develop predictive capabilities to identify individuals at risk of abusing sellers on our platform through virtual shoplifting, return policy violations or policy gaming
  • Architecting product changes to prevent these bad acting behaviors and working through the annual planning process to get them prioritized

Influencing senior leaders

  • Develop fact-based cases for initiatives you have identified as impactful for our customers
  • Build and deliver high impact analysis and presentations to secure approval and/or resources from senior Business, Product and Risk and Protections leaders
  • Participate in regular forums with leaders across the company to review the progress, plans and impact of initiatives

What we need:

We are looking for a results-oriented individual who will have end-to-end ownership of critical initiatives globally and be accountable to hit ambitious targets. We want an individual who is proactive, willing to lead and who can both think strategically as well as lead cross-functional efforts to deliver on key global initiatives. You will also be analytical and fact-based in your decision making. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of work experience preferable in e-commerce companies with roles in trust & safety, corporate strategy, Lean Six Sigma-based continuous improvement, change management and/ or shipping/logistics
  • Track record and proven leadership ability to facilitate and drive process and product improvements
  • Committed to results: biased toward action and constantly pushing towards delivery
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with swift execution: we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well
  • Strong communication and presence, especially with senior leaders of the organization
  • Proven track-record of project/program management, multi-tasking, and influence both with and without formal authority
  • Experience analyzing data sets to provide user behavior insights and tackle business problems
  • Track record of taking initiative and delivering substantial results in your previous roles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to navigate a cross functional matrixed organizational structure to meet individual and shared goals

What we offer:

  • A versatile job in a dynamic, international and growth-oriented team, anchored in the global eBay organization.
  • An international environment with attractive compensation and career and professional development opportunities
  • A fun team, passion for what we do and how we do it, and a good sense of humor
