You will be directly responsible for improving eBay's algorithms that drive customer traffic via Marketing channels. You will work on cutting-edge ML/optimization algorithms against one of the biggest datasets in the world. You’ll work with world-class data scientists and engineers. We are developing personalization technologies and optimization strategies that have a direct impact on eBay's customers as well as the company's bottom line. You will be expected to research state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms, optimization, natural language processing, text mining, and other techniques, and apply them to eBay's marketing platforms. You will roll out your solutions to production, analyze results offline and online, and measure the impact.

Responsibilities

Aggregate huge amounts of data and information from large numbers of sources to discover patterns and create features necessary to build machine learning models that match eBay’s inventory with customers’ demand. Design and implement end-to-end solutions using Machine Learning, Optimization, and other advanced computer science technologies, and own live deployments to drive customer traffic to eBay.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MS in computer science, engineering or related field.
  • Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms. Strong programming skills (one or more of Python, Java, C/C++, Scala).
  • Expertise in specialized areas such as Deep Learning, NLP, Statistical modeling, Probabilistic Inference, Machine Learning, Data engineering, Recommendation Systems.
  • Experience in big data processing and analysis, e.g. Hadoop, SQL, Spark, Pyspark is required
  • Knowledge of SQL is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with large cross-functional teams of technical and non-technical members.
  • Strong analytical and research skills proven through publications in reputed conferences/journals or supporting demonstration of innovation.
  • Experience with site experimentation (A/B testing, Time splicing)

Encouraged Experience

  • PhD - at least 3 years of industrial/professional experience (Not counting Internships or Co-Ops) working in a production environment in a related field .
  • M.S. – at least 4-5 years of industrial/professional experience (Not counting Internships or Co-Ops) working in a production environment in a related field.
  • Experience with online advertising is a plus
  • Proven Professional background in Software Engineering with a focus on Object Oriented, Back End Development is a plus
