About the Team and Role:

Advertising is one of the fastest growing areas in eBay which in some ways, will define the future of eBay. Digital advertising as an industry is growing rapidly, and the landscape is shifting as ecommerce advertisers are finding better value with ecommerce companies like eBay. As they shift budget from the duopoly of google and facebook, it creates a huge opportunity for eBay. Advertising is also amplifying eBay’s ecommerce by providing a tool for our sellers to move inventory and for buyers, by surfacing high quality items.

We are looking to hire a Data Scientist to partner closely with the eBay Advertising product team. As a critical member of the Advertising Product Insights team, you will influence the Ads Product roadmap with your insights and thought leadership. You will find opportunities to drive dynamic change in the customer experience that results in significant business growth.

We mine the largest datasets in the world of e-Commerce and use analytic and big data techniques to extract impactful insights. We achieve this by partnering closely with the advertising product and engineering teams, and find opportunities to craft the product roadmaps.

Responsibilities:

  • Deep dive into eBay Advertising & Recommendation mechanism and generate impactful insights
  • Build a simulation model to gauge the impact of a given change to the eBay ecosystem
  • Consistent turning insights into implementable product growth opportunities
  • Evaluate the performance and growing opportunity of online experiments (A/B tests)
  • Opportunity assessment for initiatives on product roadmap and provide guidance accordingly

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in analytics/data science, experience in a leading technology company and experience with advertising pricing mechanism is a plus
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Business Administration or Business Analytics. PhD degree is a plus
  • Balance of critical thinking and hands-on analyses using tools & packages such as SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc.
  • Ability to see the big picture and connect the dots to evaluate how the insights impact eBay’s ecosystem
  • Proactive collaboration and effective communication skills

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York City is expected in the range below.

$135,200 - $205,700

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
