Job Description
eBay’s “Marketing Decision Sciences” team is seeking an experienced Data Scientist for its North America business unit. The role will focus on measurement, predictive model development to improve targeting as well custom analytics to discover novel insights that help to optimize marketing investments.
The role will focus on driving change and improving decision making, through statistical model development, intense data analyses, rigorous truth seeking and actionable insights discovery.
The successful candidate will find him/herself surrounded by sharp professionals with diverse backgrounds, operating in a fast-paced, intellectual, and team-oriented environment. This highly impactful role offers the unique opportunity to develop/showcase hybrid skill sets and partner with leaders across the organization. More specifically, the role will Partner with Marketing leaders and other cross-functional teams to measure existing programs, develop new targeting models and identify novel growth opportunities.
Here are some interesting problem statements we are working on.
- What are the drivers of buyer growth and churn? What is the most efficient way to arrest churn?
- How much incremental sales do incentive campaigns drive?
- What is the ROI of our customer acquisitions? Which customers will be most profitable to activate/acquire based on Customer Lifetime Value?
- What new machine learning targeting model could help us achieve our campaign objectives?
- What is the next-best-action to engage with a customer based on his/her profile and past purchase behavior?

- Job Title: Senior Manager, Data Science Marketing
To be successful in this role you would:
- Exceptional business judgment and quantitative abilities.
- Strong communication skills and experience distilling and presenting complex analyses into action-oriented recommendations.
- Ability to thrive in a cross-functional environment while juggling multiple responsibilities.
- Expertise in building machine learning models ( lift models, targeting models) and ability to communicate, drive adoption of these models to solve customer/business problems.
- Good experience with both descriptive and inferential statistics .
- Expertise in SQL, and proficiency in either Python or R and a good understanding of data warehouse architecture is required.
- Expertise in designing and measuring A/B tests.
- Finally, but crucially: A passion for eBay, either existing or nascent. We are a unique company and are looking for people who get excited by our fascinating marketplace & amazing business opportunities.
- 6-8 Years experience doing similar roles, prior experience Marketing Data Science preferred.
