We are seeking a passionate Technical Lead to design, build and manage the lifecycle of digital capabilities that enable research scientists in the Translational Medicine and TRC. The technical lead role will be accountable for the delivery of scientific applications, lab workflow digitization and integrations. This role will partner with IT business partners, scientists, workflow developers, platform engineers, data engineers, service providers, and vendors to define, prioritize, plan, build, deliver, and support the Translational Science core platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop solution architectures for new capabilities ensuring they satisfy business needs, are appropriately aligned with BMS architecture and industry standards, and are engineered to be reliable, cost effective, scalable, and sustainable throughout the expected lifecycle 
  • Lead the technical delivery for the translational science core capability projects including architecture, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment. Ensure successful delivery of high-quality systems and required SDLC artifacts.
  • Drive innovation by advising project teams and other stakeholders on the external technology landscape both within the biopharmaceutical Industry and beyond, evaluating new technologies, supporting POCs/prototyping, and participating in the development of new capabilities and service offerings including best-in-class workflows, platform integrations. DevOps, Agile development, and leading-edge scientific technologies
  • Own the end-to-end responsibility for managing Digital Capabilities through their lifecycle ensuring they are reliable, accessible, and secure
  • Contribute to strategic technology roadmaps, develop solution proposals, contribute to project business cases, and estimate budgets for new IT capabilities
  • Manage service delivery of internal and external providers, influence vendor roadmaps to align with BMS strategy
  • Some tier 2 and tier 3 technical support (triage, break/fix, solution design, delegation of implementation) 

  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or life science with IT experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive information technology experience, with responsibility for solution architecture and implementation on large scale projects. 
  • Must have demonstrated success delivering complex application systems, services-based application integration, reporting and analytics, and supporting infrastructure. Agile software development & integration, automated testing, and DevOps experience is preferred. 
  • Technical leadership skills on scientific capabilities and related integrations. Examples include Lab workflows, sample tracking, assay request, LIMS, ELN, data integration. Hand on development experience with Java, JavaScript, REST, XML, SQL, MySQL, ORACLE, and LINUX.
  • Strong technical skills in architecture principles, design pattern, modern web technologies stack, microservice architecture, AWS, database design, data integration and web services.
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycles, configuration management, best software engineering practices and agile development methodologies
  • Excellent technical leadership and collaboration skills to work effectively with partners across matrix organizations, including service providers and vendor engineers.
  • Knowledge of systems of records related to biopharma research operations, scientific workflows, and biomarker platforms.
  • Experience implementing scientific digital capabilities including SAPIO, LIMS/ELN, Spotfire, biomarkers data, biospecimens management, workflow automation, machine learning, clinical and molecular data analysis is highly preferred. 
  • Experience with computer system validation in a regulated environment. Domain knowledge in translational research and early clinical development is a strong plus.
