Position Summary

The Computer Assisted Drug Design (CADD) group at BMS is seeking a highly motivated and innovative graduate student pursuing a degree in the chemistry field to join our CADD team for a summer internship program. A successful candidate will work on integrating quantum mechanics (QM) and machine-learning (ML) models. The goal of the internship is to develop a model to predict ligand strain for application in large-scale virtual screening efforts. A successful candidate will also learn to work with large-scale compute environments and software development as well as implementation and utilization of models for use in compound prioritization for drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with small molecule drug discovery scientists to design, develop, and benchmark physics-based ML models to predict ligand strain and enhance virtual screening efforts.
  • Develop automated workflows to run calculations and update ML models to improve model performance.
  • Present results to prospective users and assist them during early adoption.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate student currently pursuing or about to begin pursuing an advanced chemistry degree or related degrees if the candidate has a sufficient chemistry background
  • Experience using Linux OS and comfortable using a command line interface
  • Moderate experience coding in python
  • Some experience using python libraries like scikit-learn, pandas, and rdkit
  • Some experience using code repositories like Git or Github
  • Any experience using QM software is a plus
