Job Description

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a results-oriented individual to join our team as a leader of data science activities that empower scientists in our Thematic Research Centers (TRCs). As a member of the Knowledge Science Research - Informatics and Predictive Sciences organization, you will provide leadership, promote shared problem-solving approaches, and ensure that integrated analytics data needs drive the evolution of our data and knowledge ecosystems.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing, processing, integrating, and mining a wide range of biomarker and clinical data types. You will partner closely with our computational researchers to design and build analysis-ready data products that utilize cutting-edge frameworks of reproducible research. This role will work with Early Clinical Development program's translational biomarker science leads, where processing and interpreting multi-platform and multi-dimensional 'omics' data in clinical settings is being employed to monitor pharmacodynamics in near real-time, and inform future patient selection hypotheses.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the hiring, development, and mentorship of data scientists embedded within our Thematic Research Centers (TRCs).
  • Through a hands-on “lead by example” approach, set a standard of excellence and evolve best practices to match the emergence of new approaches to data product development.
  • Work closely with research and computational scientists to design and build analysis-ready data products that fit the needs for R&ED scientific questions and program decisions.
  • Ensure that our data workflows drive value for scientists, collaborators, and patients.
  • Partner across organizations to develop cross-functional strategies, priorities, and resourcing plans that drive data utility and program acceleration.
  • Develop and deploy biomarker data processes and procedures as they apply to complex, high-dimensional data sets.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific or data-related field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Biology, Genomics) and 12+ years of academic / industry experience
  • or Master's Degree in a scientific or data-related field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Biology, Genomics) and 10+ years of academic / industry experience
  • or PhD in a scientific or data-related field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Biology, Genomics) and 8+ years of academic / industry experience
  • 4+ years of leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • You enjoy working in an interactive way with translational scientists, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, data coordinators and engineers.
  • Strong understanding of multi-dimensional ‘omics’ data and systematic, relational approaches to data integration and data processing workflows
  • Excellent programming skills, such as in R & Python, used to integrate, verify and report data according to specifications.
  • Excellent skills in developing & deploying automated interactive data visualization products using tools such as R-Shiny & SpotFire.
  • Familiarity with CDISC standards, such as SDTM and ADaM data.
  • Experience with cloud computing, Rest APIs and container strategies.
  • Along with programming proficiency, you must show a strong capacity for independent thinking, care about the underlying biological questions and the advancement of science for patient benefit.
