The Role

BMS External Manufacturing is looking to recruit on a permanent Contract Associate Director, Pharma Operations Analytics reporting to Senior Director, Pharma Analytics.

Based on your function, department or individual position, you will have the opportunity to discuss with your Manager the option to work remotely up to 50% of the time, over a two-week period, with the flexibility to choose the days that align with your collaboration needs

The Associate Director (AD) will drive External Manufacturing (ExM) and site analytics capabilities for Pharma operating unit. The AD will serve as the key partner with ExM and pharma stakeholders in Ireland, Switzerland, and Japan. The AD will partner with key stakeholders to deliver insights that drive flawless on-time supply, empowered decision making, and winning partnerships for Pharma operating unit. As this is a cross-functional role, the AD will work closely with the other members of the Pharma Analytics and BIA GPS team, and other enabling functions including IT, Procurement, OPEX, and Finance. The candidate must have a strong background in Data Science for processing industries. Leadership skill preferred with future people management responsibility of 2-3 direct reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting Business Decisions
  • Build and own relations with multiple key stakeholders (up to Executive Director level)
  • Develops and maintains a deep understanding of pharma operating unit business priorities, manage and expand a portion of the team’s book of work, meeting agreed upon analytics deliverables / timing
  • Opportunistically identifies how analytics can solve stakeholder business problems
  1. Driving Analytics and Capabilities for Pharma Operations
  • Designs, develops and deploy a broad array of business analytics that solve complex problems in a computationally efficient and statistically effective manner. 
  • Identifies new opportunities to pilot and/or implement advanced analytics and AI innovation.
  • Supports digital first mindset and fact-based decision making through analytics value stories.
  • Drive multiple capability builds within team or other functional area. •Lead cross functional projects to help enhance BIA value.
  1. Driving Team Productivity and Operational Excellence
  • Help Senior Director of pharma analytics define team’s strategy
  • Supervises and collaborates closely with external contractors and vendors when applicable or assigned.
  • Conducts detailed team walkthroughs and peer review of team’s work to ensure quality, cross training and knowledge management within the team.
  • Ensures consistent adoption of standards, processes and methodologies by contracted or other team staff.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members on technical and strategic topics.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • BA/BS in a scientific or quantitative major required; advanced degree (Master or PhD) preferred; Operations Research background preferred
  • 5+ years of experience developing and using advanced analytics and reporting techniques; relevant experience in biopharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Experience with data science solutions including data engineering, data visualization, statistical analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, predictive modeling, machine learning, etc.
  • Ability to architect analytics and/or data science solutions
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, team-building, written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective collaborations within matrix teams.
  • Experience in leveraging methods such as Design Thinking and Human Center Design to generate high value questions preferred
  • People management experience desired
