JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a creative and collaborative scientist and technologist to lead a computational sequence identification team to help us discover and design novel biologics. You have expertise in building and scaling next-generation sequencing technologies, pipelines, and workflows that connect to machine learning and predictive models and integrate with automation and functional assays to drive closed-loop design of protein therapeutics with desired binding characteristics and biological activity. This role provides the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary teams to solve challenging problems in the discovery and design of new biologics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a high-functioning team focused on sequence identification and characterization of antibodies and related biologics in support of BMS’ pipeline of therapeutic programs
  • Leverage automation, data science, bioinformatics, and machine learning to expand the throughput of antibody screening platforms, including data curation, analysis and interpretation of large data sets
  • Partner with project teams to build workflows and pipelines around analytical frameworks for antibody repertoire sequencing
  • Present strategies, approaches, results, and conclusions to a publishable standard in static and interactive formats
  • Collaborate with discovery biotherapeutics teams to develop an integrated approach for identifying molecules with novel binding and functional properties to progress
  • Coach, mentor, and develop talent
  • Establish and strengthen the interface between teams, including streamlining communication, operations, and data systems
  • Participate in authorship of scientific reports, and present methods and conclusions to publishable standards

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in biochemistry, biophysics, computer science, engineering, or related field and12+ years of academic / industry experience
  • or Master's Degree in biochemistry, biophysics, computer science, engineering, or related field and 10+ years of academic / industry experience
  • or PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, computer science, engineering, or related field and 8+ years of academic / industry experience
  • 4+ years of leadership experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, computer science, engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experience, with half of that time being in biopharma or biotechnology industries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in biotherapeutic sequencing technologies and characterization.
  • Experience scaling workflows and processes that leverage high-throughput technologies.
  • Deep understanding of binding kinetics, affinity, epitope, and mechanism of action, using surface plasmon resonance (SPR), or orthogonal technologies such as BLI, ITC, ELISA.
  • In depth understanding of antibody sequence, structure, and antigen engagement.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and teamwork.
  • Strong communication, data presentation, and visualization skills.
  • A track record of successful people and team leadership, with a focus on developing talent.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is desired.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $179,000 to $220,000 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
