The SIMPHONI Program is designed to capture, process, and analyze data from non-clinical In Vivo and Ex Vivo data sources. The Data Management component of SIMPHONI is responsible for providing dashboard capabilities, including visualization and statistical analysis, plus data curation, a KPI engine and data quality checks. BMS Research IT is recruiting a permanent Data Management Delivery Manager who will support, maintain, and develop systems as SIMPHONI Data Management matures. The role requires a creative hands-on technologist who can think outside of the box and enjoy challenging projects. The role will perform ongoing support, design, development, and deliver activities related to advancing the SIMPHONI Program.

This role requires passion about the intersection of data and life sciences and the ability to apply process engineering, data engineering, analytics, and software development skills to solve problems in this domain. The ideal candidate will have a software development background and effectively work and lead in a matrixed team with other IT organizations and with end-user teams across the globe to understand requirements, communicate status and conduct necessary implementation, testing, and support activities. 

The candidate will implement user stories for backend and frontend updates, clarify requirements with BAs, raise risks, and manage dependencies. SIMPHONI is a hub for various types of data (In-vivo, assay, KPIs) and platforms (AWS Glue, Spotfire, EDC, AXON and Data Ops), so the ability to collaborate with a matrixed team is critical. The scope of work includes development and testing data management (parsing, transformations, extraction), data enrichment through scripting, as well as enabling analytics and visualizations. On a day-to-day basis, the candidate will also provide product support including break fixes and addressing scientist requests and queries.

The candidate will be an integral part of a small team, focusing exclusively on Research IT scientific data and systems and will contribute to the Research IT portfolio of applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to lead multiple initiatives, work independently, and communicate effectively. 
  • Use an Agile process such as Scrum to enable flexibility of work and speed to results.
  • Provide technical expertise in the capture, analysis, solution, and presentation of complex scientific data.
  • Enable data cleansing, visualization, and downstream integration solutions by developing code.
  • Understand the needs of our BMS scientists and commit to delivering the best user experience and adoption practices in a timely manner Able to collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Tier-3 Production support and life cycle management for various systems used by Research IT.
  • Maintain and develop run book documentation, end user support documentation, generating reports/dashboards.
  • Responsible for managing technology assets, ensuring they are reliable, accessible, and secure.
  • Participates in operational activities such as maintenance and break-fix releases, security assessments, risk assessments, incident response, certificate renewals, provisioning of user accounts, etc.
  • Ability to understand, prioritize, and communicate IT needs to our business colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Support enhancement releases and upgrades, including requirement gathering, configuration management, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or related Data Science and Engineering disciplines is preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience required.
  • Must have Scripting (Python, R etc.), Statistical Analysis experience.
  • Must be able to develop Spotfire or Tableau dashboards.
  • Strong Knowledge of SQL is required. 
  • Experience in data modeling, ML, and databases is strongly valued. 
  • Good Experience with AWS (Data Lake, AWS Glue, IAM, S3, RDS, RS, Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway etc.) is required.
  • Scientific / Research Data SME preferred.
  • Understanding of research domain & processes.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC processes.
  • Demonstrates openness to learning and developing. Takes a responsibility for their own development and growth.​
  • Experience in using agile tools (e.g., Jira) and IT Service Management tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Ability to flex to support releases during non-standard work hours.
