American Express is looking for a Senior Manager-Data Engineering to contribute to the company's focus on cash-flow and digital financial products for small businesses, including American Express Business Blueprint. 

The products, originally designed by the Fintech startup Kabbage, are offered to millions of small business owners to streamline actions that could help them grow their businesses, such as managing cash flow, receiving payments from customers, and acquiring business funding. 

Kabbage was acquired by American Express in 2020.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Partner with analysts, data engineers and other stakeholders to refine business goals and translate them into data requirements and development roadmap
  • Dig into data to understand what it means and how it connects with other data and the business operations
  • Design and develop large, complex data sets and dimensional data models that feed enterprise reporting and self-service tools
  • Develop flexible and sustainable infrastructure to support reporting and analytical needs including cleansing logic, accurate and useful aggregations, tables, views, stored procedure
  • Develop and maintain best practices to ensure consistent handling of data and accurate results for all analysis and reporting. This includes documentation and code sharing
  • Create, monitor, and maintain Tableau datasets and reports
  • Lead change management processes when updating data and reporting processes
  • QA and verify accuracy of all data through transformations including verifying with source systems
  • Partner with Analytics team members and collaborators to support data infrastructure needs and strive for greater functionality in our data systems and tools
  • Strive to constantly improve the quality and integrity of our data by proactively identifying issues and coordinating their resolution
  • Advise, consult, mentor and coach other data and analytics professionals on data standards and practices
  • Champion a culture of sharing, re-use, design for scale stability, and operational efficiency of data and analytical solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of experience working in a fast-paced software development environment
  • Experience leading data development programs focused on analytics and reporting across a variety of large and complex data sources. This includes dimensional modeling, ETL, reporting tools, data governance, data warehousing and work with structured and unstructured data
  • Expertise in SQL query development including performance tuning, stored procedure development and complex query development
  • Experience working on a collaborative analytics environment focused on answering questions thoroughly
  • Experience with developing solutions on cloud computing services and infrastructure in the data and analytics space
  • Exposure to machine learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics
  • Excellent communication, listening, and influencing skills
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in creating and maintaining Tableau reports including Tableau server administration
  • Strong Development Skills: Able to develop impactful queries and procedures with very large datasets and complex logic
  • Design thinking: Able to develop comprehensive data systems to manage data that anticipates change and facilitates reuse
  • Flexibility/Adaptability: Not thrown off by frequently changing priorities and conditions; copes effectively with complexity and change
  • Drive & Persistence: Proactive & determined; Resourceful, has grit, and a positive “can do” attitude. Possesses a strong willingness to work hard and efficiently to get the job done
  • Collaboration & Influence: Ability to successfully influence and bring together internal and external partners to achieve shared goals
  • Communication Skills: Communicates information, ideas, and concepts clearly
  • Attention to Detail: Does not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project
  • Lots of questions: Curious, loves learning. Not willing to accept surface level answers

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
