The Business Systems Integration (BSI) team within Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (AS) is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Principal / Sr. Principal Data Scientist. This Business Systems position is located in Clearfield/Roy, Utah. Our team is new to Aerospace Structures Business Unit (ASBU) and will be responsible for Data Science. The candidate will need to be a strategic thinker who can apply data science, trend analysis, and machine learning to make well-informed people decisions. The candidate will ask questions about people, the business, and how we can use data to find creative solutions. The candidate will need to be candid and collaborative in taking on our most difficult analytics projects as well as the process and culture changes that accompany them. The candidate must demonstrate customer support skills, be able to work collaboratively in cross functional team settings and be able to complete assignments with minimal management supervision. The role requires the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and to learn new computer applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as deputy for the Business Systems Integration Manager
  • Translating business questions and identifying and implementing appropriate modeling or analysis techniques
  • Taking projects from initial concept through deployment
  • Creating data visualizations using common tools (Python or R libraries, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Utilizing exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to present complex models or analyses to business partners
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, teammates, and business leaders

Our team enjoys a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaboration across all levels. We are comfortable conversing at all levels of our leadership chain, from the individual contributor level all the way up through senior leadership. We work closely with teams throughout the Production Operations organization: system engineers, design engineers, manufacturing and industrial engineers and operational leadership. 

Our team works a 9/80 work week, which gives you every other Friday off to pursue interests outside of the office. Travel is up to 10%, all within the continental US and typically involves travel to Iuka, MS and Dayton, OH but may require occasional travel to any major NG site. 

Basic Qualifications:

Principal

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)

    discipline with 5+ years of data analyst experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of data analyst experience, or PhD.

  • Expertise in machine learning, modeling algorithms, or statistics
  • Experience with Python or Power BI or similar systems.
  • Experience with SQL, ETL, and databases
  • Ability to obtain & maintain Secret DoD or Top-Secret clearance
  • The ability to obtain & maintain Special Program Access

Senior Principal

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)

    discipline 9+ years of data analyst experience, Master's degree with 7+ years of data analyst experience, PhD with 4+ years of data experience.

  • Expertise in machine learning, modeling algorithms, or statistics
  • Experience with Python or Power BI or similar systems.
  • Experience with SQL, ETL, and databases
  • Ability to obtain & maintain Secret DoD or Top-Secret clearance
  • The ability to obtain & maintain Special Program Access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Aerospace Industry or working on Defense Acquisition programs
  • Experience building pipelines for machine learning models
  • Experience automating processes
  • Experience with talent or people or trend-related data analytics
  • Experience with large scale manufacturing application implementations (MES, SAP, and CPLM systems)
  • Knowledge of Solumina G7+/Costpoint 7.x+/MES 1.0+/Siemens CPLM systems with basic commands
  • Active Special Access Program clearance

Salary Range: $99,500 USD - $124,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $123,400 USD - $185,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
