The Advanced Technology Labs at Northrop Grumman are seeking an individual with the skills of a data scientist who wants the opportunity to make significant and ongoing contributions to a maturing data science team. In this position, you will be helping drive innovation in an area focused on superconducting electronics through many data driven processes. You will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and presenting data, including providing actionable intelligence gathered from multiple disparate data sets. The ideal candidate possesses the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. This position requires the synthesis of new information near daily to generate intelligence that allows us to drive new innovations forward. The ideal candidate is willing to learn about both new technologies and concepts and can effectively communicate their own knowledge to others. This candidate is also expected to aid in the development of a data analysis pipeline that will lend itself towards automation and scale while utilizing engineering and statistical techniques.

This position requires work on site located at our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, MD.

Your responsibilities:

  • Aggregate and analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends and patterns using data science fundamentals.
  • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical and analytical techniques to provide ongoing reports and visualizations.
  • Effectively generate ideas and support building data tools in order to effectively automate analysis processes.
  • Communication and visualization skills to provide effective and articulate insights about findings in the data that provide direction towards potential solutions.
  • Assist in implementing data collection systems, data analytics, automatic data analysis and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Design, model, and document the logical and conceptual relationship of data and database changes for metrics and analytics.
  • Design and prototype data analytics pipelines that effectively summarize data for identification of trends and correlations.

What you need to be successful in the role:

  • Problem-solving skills and root-cause analysis to ensure that curated data is accurate, repeatable, and explainable.
  • Interdisciplinary communication skills (written, verbal, and visual) to communicate results with other team members.
  • Ability to create and present data reports and practical visualizations to support investigations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Development/programming of tools to improve pipeline efficiency, automate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area with 6+ months of relevant experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
  • Experience with common data science toolkits such as python/R, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow, matplotlib, numpy
  • Proficiency in C++ or python
  • Experience with image processing or computer vision
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance per business requirements. US Citizenship is a requirement of this.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product Lifecycle experience
  • Data visualization experience
  • Stream processing data experience
  • Time series databases and time series analysis
  • HPC experience
  • Proficiency using query languages such as SQL
  • Applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • JMP proficiency (SAS statistical tool)
  • MATLAB experience
  • Knowledge of basic physics and/or materials science
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Salary Range: $71,500 USD - $107,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
