Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff level Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on our International E-2D program. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.


Flight Test Data Scientist is responsible for reduction, analysis, transmission, and reporting of flight test data for E-2D international flight test program, specifically Japan E-2D Wet-Outer Wing Panel (WOWP) program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reducing aircraft-recorded and telemetry-recorded data into usable engineering data for post-flight analysis
  • Developing in-house data analysis tools, as well as learning existing tools (MATLAB, IADS)
  • Analyzing flight test data for specification compliance and data validity
  • Transmitting raw and processed data to the customer
  • Supporting formal flight test data reviews and reporting requirements
  • Real-time telemetry support

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree AND 14 years of related professional/military experience in data science, OR a Master’s degree AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in data science, or a Ph.D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in data science.
  • Must have experience with IADS, MATLAB, Omega and Chapter 10 formatting.
  • Must have a broad understanding of flight testing to include requirements definition, instrumentation, data processing.
  • Must have experience on a flight test team with emphasis on real-time telemetry operations. 
  • Must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a STEM discipline
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
  • Fixed-wing flight test experience is highly desirable
  • Military aircraft flight test experience
  • Familiar with flight test operations

Salary Range: $148,200 USD - $222,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
