ROLE SUMMARY

The Digital Medicine & Translational Imaging group (DMTI) in Early Clinical Development is seeking an experienced data scientist to develop, validate, and deploy solutions enabling digital measures of health in clinical trials across therapeutic areas at Pfizer. The Associate Director will support DMTI projects from inception to completion by leveraging their technical expertise in machine learning, software development and analytics knowledge to develop fit-for-purpose algorithms. They will inform the selection of devices, write code to ingest data from these devices, implement the pipelines bringing together data from multiple sources and develop novel digital endpoints by using advanced signal processing and machine learning techniques. A key function of this role will be ensuring data quality, traceability, and integrity are maintained, as well as ensuring scalability of the solutions across sites/studies. They will also play a key role in mentoring junior colleagues and providing guidance to help inform the strategic direction of the data science team.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as SME in the development and implementation of novel algorithms for monitoring health using wearable and connected devices by leveraging machine learning, signal processing, and statistical modeling expertise across DMTI projects.
  • Lead SDLC process to ensure repeatability and robustness of analytics solutions, as well as data traceability.
  • Partner with internal (e.g. Pfizer Digital, asset teams) and external stakeholders (e.g. vendors, CROs) to scale-up algorithms pipeline for deployment across multiple studies/sites in late stage clinical trials.
  • Act as POC with DMTI research project leads and project managers to monitor progress, mitigate technical risk, and implement processes to ensure timely delivery of data analytics solutions and nurture the reliance on data driven decisioning.
  • Integrate and summarize large-scale data and information across multiple scientific, translational, and clinical domains.
  • Collaborate with DMTI medical informatics team to develop fit-for-purpose, automated data management pipelines using AWS tools.
  • Effectively communicate findings with team members, colleagues, external experts, and regulatory authorities, leading the conversation and advancing the field.
  • Mentor junior colleagues on the data science team, helping establish DS role models and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Training & Education

  • PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., data science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics) with 2+ years of real-world data science work experience, or MS with 7+ years of experience in biomedical data science.

Skills

  • Strong background in data science, signal processing, and machine learning.
  • Experience with analysis of data from motion (e.g. accelerometer, gyroscope) and physiological (e.g. ECG, EMG) sensors.
  • Knowledge of human biomechanics and/or physiology is a strong plus.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages, e.g., Python, R, Java, MATLAB, and experience using these to build machine learning models.
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle in a regulated environment is a plus.
  • Experience with implementing cloud native solutions using services such as AWS, Azure, GCP is a plus.
  • Experience building data processing pipelines using, e.g., MapReduce, Spark, containers (Docker).
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.

Experience

  • Successful track record in data-related sciences such as Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning and/or Physics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative algorithms and analytics to facilitate scientific progress.
  • Strong publication record is a plus.
  • Experience working in a translational, collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment.
