Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Oncology AI Innovation Engineer to join our Scientific Affairs and Strategic Partnerships (SASP) team within Pfizer Oncology R&D, reporting to the Oncology AI Strategy Lead.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing AI-driven prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to support cutting-edge initiatives within Pfizer Oncology R&D. You will collaborate closely with SASP leadership team and cross-functional teams, including data scientists, oncologists, and software engineers, to create AI solutions that improve patient outcomes, accelerate breakthroughs, and enhance overall oncology R&D processes, operations and efficiency across the value chain (discovery, development, medical strategy).

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AI Prototype Development: Design and develop AI-driven prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to address complex challenges in oncology research and development processes. This includes leveraging machine learning algorithms, deep learning models, natural language processing, and other AI techniques.
  • Collaborative Solution Development: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, identify opportunities, and translate them into innovative AI solutions.
  • Proof-of-Concept Development: Develop proof-of-concept solutions that can be successfully scaled up and integrated into existing systems to demonstrate the feasibility and value of AI-driven approaches in oncology R&D. Conduct experiments and evaluate the performance of prototypes, providing quantitative and qualitative evidence to support their effectiveness.
  • Validation and Testing: Conduct rigorous testing and validation of AI prototypes to ensure accuracy, robustness, and compliance with regulatory standards. Collaborate with domain experts to validate the effectiveness of AI models and refine them based on feedback. Collaborate with software engineers to integrate AI prototypes into existing systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, usability and adaptability to evolving research needs and technological advancements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and reports. Clearly communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, and management.
  • Stay Updated on Emerging Technologies: Keep abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and oncology research. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure the AI prototypes align with current standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Pfizer enterprise, including interacting with machine learning (ML) professionals, data scientists and programmers within Digital and functional AI/Data COEs as needed to deliver on other responsibilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field with 14+ years of experience
  • Preferred Master's degree
  • Solid understanding of AI concepts and machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in core technical skills, such as programming (e.g., Python, R, Java), machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), data manipulation (NumPy, Pandas), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), version control (Git), and software engineering principles.
  • Experience with oncology research, genomics data, and clinical trial processes is highly desirable.
  • 3+ years in developing and deploying AI prototypes or applications in a research or healthcare setting.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex datasets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for driving innovation in oncology R&D.
  • Ability to work within a matrix organization and collaborate effectively and directly with solution end users in other functions (e.g., R&D, Commercial and IT).
  • Desirable: experience with product development, end user requirement gathering, design thinking or other relevant user-engagement capabilities
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $156,900.00 to $261,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
