Job Description

Pfizer is seeking a talented, self-motivated Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist with background in developing analytical algorithm, data processing pipeline to support mRNA vaccine data analytics and next generation sequencing efforts in viral vaccines R&D team at Pearl River.

The scientist in this role will apply analytical skills and develop bioinformatics tools to track viral variant change. The successful candidate will analyze data from next generation sequencing and provide bioinformatics and data science support to various mRNA viral vaccines program.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and manage automated secondary analysis NGS pipelines.
• Implement custom analytical pipelines to support our study on SARS-CoV-2 by next generation whole genome sequencing technology
• Explore novel genomics and machine learning algorithms for predicting potential flu and COVID strain and variant change.
• Develop algorithms for the analysis of vast amount data spanning different data types and platforms for viral vaccines programs.
• Assist in development and maintenance of internal genomic sequence databases and experimental databases
• Conduct data collection, data management, bioinformatics application development and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or related field required with 6 years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics. PhD. is preferred
• Hand-on experience with processing of high-throughput next generation sequencing data and possessing strong data management and analysis skills.
• Proficient coding/scripting in Python, Perl, R
• Experience working in Linux environments and broad experience with open source bioinformatics tools
• Experience working in a high-performance computing and/or cloud computing environment
• Expertise applying statistical modeling and machine learning to real problems in biology is highly desirable
• Must be comfortable with fast pace environment handling multiple projects simultaneously with different priorities and timelines.
• Strong abilities to quickly learn new skills and adapt to challenges on the job
