The primary accountability and responsibility of the Senior Director, Manufacturing and Engineering D&AI Products is to lead the development, delivery and support of data and analytical products for GSC manufacturing and engineering organizations that drives business value. This business value will include Data products, BI Products and Analytics Products that drive and enable our growth agenda, drive shop floor analytics, Digital Twins, manufacturing understanding, cycle time efficiency, yield improvements, and secure our license to operate by enhancing manufacturing robustness. The types of data products include dashboards, advanced analytics products, visualization products, cognitive automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence products. This role will have primary D&AI delivery responsibilities to the Manufacturing Plants in Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals (Vaccines, Biologics & Devices, Primary & Established Medicines, and External Manufacturing).

Senior Director, Manufacturing and Engineering D&AI Products will lead for GSCD&T Data & AI organization, will be leading a cross-functional team of product and engineering to drive the GSC D&AI portfolio and delivery on the GSK core data platform (Code Orange). This role will own planning, directing, and coordinating activities for the product roadmap to develop solutions for internal customers related to building out data platform capabilities to drive GSK’s data and analytics needs. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, product owners, engineering, and leadership to efficiently manage the priority and development of critical data platform features. This role will provide strategy, architecture and technology partnership with the GSC BUs, GSCD&T D&AI and EDAP Team and help them understand the key data capabilities offered by the Code Orange platform and gather their needs to enhance the platform product with self-service features to ingest, prepare, & transform data. This role will own alignment and contribute directly to the overall strategy of the GSCD&T Data & AI team, with strong business partnership and enable BU Tech D&A requirements, complete solution design, deliver end to end solutions. This role will oversee projects which will enable faster ingestion & acquisition, preparation, and creation of analytical ready datasets by creating microservices and self-service data capabilities. There will be ongoing management for each delivery to improve performance and drive continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle. 

Support alignment across teams GSC D&T Data & AI and EDAP and a combined strategy to support efficient collaboration. Provide leadership and direction to the product and engineering team within their reporting structure. Act as a leader within the team to ensure team alignment with the broader strategy. Partner with customers and leaders to validate concepts, vision, and roadmaps. Own results and drive the team to support program objectives, success measurements, and key performance indicators. Provide the vision for the needed platform capabilities to help the needs of your business pillar. Use your product skillsets to explore and partner in delivering solution architecture in line with the current architecture of the enterprise data ecosystem while driving the future of the core data ecosystem within GSK. Participate in industry conferences and seminars, stay well informed of changes and trends in the marketplace; educate colleagues, partners, and customers as appropriate. Meet with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems. Review project plans to plan and coordinate priorities with business partners and internal engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a thought leader, innovator, and agent of change to drive Shop Floor Analytics, Digital Twin, IIoT, and integration of the overall Code Orange platform strategy, target architecture, technology, and investment roadmap.
  • Proactively engage with key business and Tech stakeholders to anticipate upcoming demand and collaborate with senior leadership to capture business initiatives to drive Product Understanding, Cycle Time Improvements, Yield Improvements, Improve Uptime and Reliability of Manufacturing Lines.
  • Establish and own a strong executive business partnership with the identified BU Tech D&AI leadership team and Key business members, align and integrate the roadmaps and investments which enable respective business focused strategies and outcomes.
  • Own and drive the combined roadmap for both technical deliveries of GSC Data platform capabilities and business deliverables.
  • Management and of a cross-functional team to drive business value delivering and building key business KPIs to support the ongoing success.
  • Own delivery for business tech partnerships and initiatives.
  • Drive and lead business tech and business requirements, complete solution design, deliver end-to-end solutions, include data ingestion & Acquisition, create microservices to help deliver faster business value, and provide ongoing management to improve performance and drive continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive alignment and provide input to the Cloud Roadmap and Strategy.
  • Own engagement with GSC BU, GSCD&T D&AI and EDAP of GSK- communication across all levels of management.
  • Utilizing Aha and Azure DevOps to manage the backlog of work for documentation around the engagements.
  • Be an evangelist of Product Management, SAFe Agile practices to support the adoption.
  • Actively contribute to the Data and Product communities across GSK
  • Strategy: Inspire and influence the 3-year strategy for data and analytics products within the GSC manufacturing and engineering domains, partnering with the domain Tech lead and business domain stakeholders. Accountable for development and delivery strategy of data products within GSC product area. Support the broader GSK enterprise data platform strategy and ensure SC product area specific platform technology requirements are represented in the enterprise data platform.
  • Delivery: Ensure project goals are achieved on time in alignment with the stakeholders’ expectations—ability to manage complex projects and escalate to other leadership teams when needing support. 
  • Product Management: Accountable for implementing data product management and Agile delivery within GSC Data and AI, with a strong focus on effective partnership with domain Tech teams within GSCD&T to ensure business context and value are clearly understood, requirements are clear and unambiguous to enable efficient data ops and engineering delivery, and continuous feedback from business customers and end users is fed into the Agile process. Partner with domain Tech teams to ensure delivery expectations and timelines are ambitious but realistic, and that progress is clearly and transparently communicated with one Tech voice into business stakeholders.
  • Methodology: Project methodology will prioritize Agile, but where regulatory requirements exist may also require traditional Waterfall approaches or a hybrid between the two. 
  • Ownership: Take ownership for the development/delivery projects and help steer until completion while owning the support of the solutions in BAU mode.
  • Partnering: Work when required with other externals and/or internal delivery agents to coordinate delivery.
  • Governance: Follow governance that allows the projects and stakeholders to manage overall project performance and manage program risks within the global nature of some of the programs.
  • Forward-looking: Remain flexible towards technology approaches to ensure that the best advantage is being taken of new technologies. Keep abreast of industry developments in analytics and interpret how these would impact services and present new opportunities.
  • Quality, Risk & Compliance: Ensure all risks and issues associated with owned projects are promptly recorded and managed in the appropriate Risk & Issue logs.
  • Mentoring: Contribute to the overall running of the team, including the development of talent and capabilities. 
  • People Management: Manage a team of direct report Squad Leads and Engineering teams who will be directly responsible for developing and delivering new capabilities. Able to manage and motivate direct reports which may be globally located.
  • Technical Architecture: Be conversant with technical architecture to design discussions in partnership with the dedicated Analytics & Data Architect.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 15 years of experience leading technology teams, MES, DCS/PLCS, Historians, Automation
  • 7+ years of manufacturing and engineering experience with Biotechnology, Vaccines, Small Molecules, Devices
  • 8+ years of BioPharma and/or Life Sciences industry experience
  • 5+ years in Data Product experience- specific to owning and enabling capabilities within an enterprise data ecosystem including Data Management practices (Analytics/Platform)
  • Comprehensive understanding of S88/S95 Models, Shop Floor Analytics, IiOT, Digital Twin, Streaming

  • Demonstrated execution experience leading large scale programs
