Are you looking for a scientific leadership role that allows you to leverage the latest technology in bioinformatics, computational biology, and biological data science to help deliver treatments to 38 million people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)? If so, our Scientific Leader (Bioinformatics) role could be an exciting opportunity to explore.

As a Scientific Leader (Bioinformatics), you will develop and employ computational tools to analyze biological data. You will also be responsible for performing biological discovery and development research within the globally impactful HIV therapeutic area.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Have opportunities to use biological data science skills to impact all phases of drug development, from discovery and development to post marketing safety and resistance monitoring.
  • Analyze viral genetic sequence, next generation sequencing (NGS) and biomarker data from preclinical and clinical programs that will benefit millions of people living with HIV globally.
  • Review, evaluate and develop world-class viral bioinformatics technologies and analysis pipelines.
  • Exercise your excellent communication, management, and leadership skills by working closely with a diverse group of partners including external collaborators, vendors, and internal groups in our large matrix organization.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and maintain internal bioinformatics platform that follows best practices in R&D
  • Maintain knowledge of competitive market conditions, patient requirements, and technology advances.
  • Influence organizational thinking, design and execution of ViiV R&D projects and processes using your scientific insight.
  • Make a significant contribution to advancing HIV therapeutics as a key team member either through leading the project or by being a core team member.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Master, PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related quantitative fields with 5+ years of industry experience or equivalent and track record of data-driven solutions to complex biological problems. Demonstrated ability to work independently with high level of accountability for business deliverables.
  • Hands on bioinformatics data analysis experience.
  • Experience programming in Python or R (3+ years, Python is preferred) and shell scripting.
  • Experience in Linux/Unix and high-performance computing cluster.
  • Experience in biological sequence analysis.
  • Experience in building bioinformatics analysis pipelines.
  • Experience in biological data wrangling, analysis, and visualization.
  • Working knowledge of molecular biology.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Independent problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented and deliverables driven.
  • Experience with stakeholder management.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • NGS data (short and long reads) analysis and interpretation including deep understanding of variant calling.
  • Viral bioinformatics experience.
  • Experience of working in regulatory and/or late phase clinical environment.
  • Working knowledge of CDISC standards.
  • Machine learning on complex biological data sets.
  • Project management.
  • Python package development.
  • Workflow language.
  • Experience with cloud-based computing.
