Job Description

Key Responsibilities will be:

  • Translational Science Leadership: Provide strategic leadership, guidance and deeper understanding of RI RU aligned diseases enabling the development and execution of translational science plans to support the discovery and development of novel differentiated therapeutics
  • Working in a matrix environment, identify and guide validation of assays through the use of human cells, tissues and organs to enhance human translation and predictive value including through the use of resources such as the Human Cell Atlas and disease tissue multi-omics data (external or proprietary)
  • Biomarker Strategy Development: Partner with the BUs and Precision Medicine to identify, establish and implement biomarker strategies aligned with the overall research and development goals. Identify, prioritize, and guide validation of phase relevant biomarkers for target engagement, mechanistic/surrogate biomarkers, patient stratification, and differentiated response prediction
  • Stay updated with the latest scientific advancements and technologies in the field of translational science and biomarkers.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including research, platforms, HBSM, Precision Medicine, data-sciences, clinical science and development, regulatory affairs, and commercial to ensure seamless integration of translational science and biomarker strategies across the drug development lifecycle. Provide scientific expertise and guidance to support decision-making and project progression
  • External Partnerships: Establish and maintain strategic collaborations with academic institutions, contract research organizations (CROs), and other external partners to access cutting-edge technologies, tools, reagents, bio samples, biomarker expertise, and research capabilities. Foster a network of external experts and key opinion leaders to stay at the forefront of translational science and biomarker advancements, particularly competitors. Contribute to evaluation and diligence of business development opportunities
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of scientists and researchers working on translational science and biomarker projects. Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to ensure a high-performing and motivated team

Requirements:

  • PhD. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Cell/Molecular Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Physical Chemistry or related field) with extensive experience in translational science and biomarker development within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Strong knowledge of drug discovery, translational research, and drug development
  • Broad knowledge (and expertise in subset) in technologies and methods used in translational research
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing biomarker strategies into program decision criteria, and delivering translational science insights in support of drug development programs and progression into clinic and through clinical transition milestones
  • Experience in leading and managing high performing cross-functional teams, creating a culture of accountability, growth, and development
  • Experience leading and managing external collaborations and diligence for business development opportunities
  • Excellent inclusive leadership skills, with the ability to create psychological safety, inspire and motivate a team towards achieving common goals
