Horizontal Platforms teams work on orchestration, which is Cruise’s workflow management platform, Centra, entry point to ML tooling at Cruise, reliability, and observability. We provide common solutions to problems across the MLI (Machine Learning Infrastructure) organization so that the teams can focus on solving their individual product problems. We work closely with our ML engineer customers across the Perception and Behavior organizations to support their model training and evaluation workflows.

Your focus is on making pipeline based model tests as fast as possible. This way, you will help Cruise expand to multiple cities.

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Use the latest cloud technologies to design, implement, and test scalable distributed data systems. Champion engineering excellence by continuously improving systems and processes.
  • Build automation that surfaces insights on how machine learning engineers can improve workflow efficiency. 
  • Work closely with machine learning engineers to enable cutting-edge R&D efforts and improve existing systems.
  • Own technical projects from start to finish. Effectively participate in team’s planning, code reviews and design discussions
  • Work together with partner teams and orgs to achieve cross-departmental goals and satisfy broad requirements

What we are looking for: 

General:

  • Passion for self-driving technology and its impact
  • Experience and proficiency shipping products end-to-end
  • Technical communication/collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to empathize with customer problems and deliver solutions

Technical:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another relevant field; or equivalent real-world experience
  • Experience building scalable infrastructure on the cloud with Python, Java, or Golang (or similar)
  • Experience with SQL, Spark, BigQuery, Dataflow, or other data processing tools
  • Strong computer science fundamentals in object oriented programming, data structures, algorithm design, best practices, and complexity analysis.
  • Experience with Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, or similar

Bonus points!

  • Experience working on computer vision, machine learning or related projects from ideation to completion
  • Experience working with model and pipeline testing or active learning techniques
  • Experience with autonomous vehicle technology
  • Experience building tools that are core to a machine learning engineer’s daily work
  • Experience working closely with product managers, designers, and user experience researchers

The salary range for this position is $122,900 - 180,600. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
