In this role you will join the Cruise AI Data Science team developing solutions to a fundamental industry challenge: accurately measuring real-world AV safety performance through large scale simulation. To support engineering development and feature rollouts, our team develops large scale simulations of AV behavior in order to capture large and small changes in behavior and performance. Our team leverages simulation frameworks developed in-house at Cruise. We then select what scenarios to simulate in order to best predict real-world outcomes, and leverage those results to learn how new code updates and features will impact our most critical metrics.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

• Explore and develop methods to control for environmental covariates
• Measure the efficacy of causal inference (A/B) methods
• Build new features to better understand sampling bias
• Contribute to the Cruise’s roadmap through working closely with engineers, product managers and other stakeholders

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

• Pursuing PhD in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Computer Science or other quantitative field)
• Academic/industry experience in applying statistics, machine learning, optimization, economics, and analytics to real world problems
• Practical command over SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools
• Excellent communication skills
• Extensive practical experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing, and model development

BONUS POINTS!

• Prior experience with ride sharing or similar industries
• Prior experience with causal inference methods
• SQL or python methods and experience with big data analysis
• Experience with productionizing algorithms

The salary range for this position is $28.00 - $68.00/hour. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
