Job Description

Who We Are

The Mission of Oracle Labs is straightforward: identify, explore, and transfer new technologies that have the potential to substantially improve Oracle's business. The Machine Learning Research Group (MLRG) in Oracle Labs is working to develop, scale, and deploy Machine Learning throughout all of Oracle's products and services.

The MLRG is composed of researchers, data scientists, and engineers who collaborate closely with other Oracle Labs research groups, product groups, and business units across the entire company. These collaborations run the gamut from fundamental ML research around fairness and privacy to training image recognition models and building large language models for natural language processing.

What You'll be Doing

In conjunction with other members of the MLRG team, you will be defining and pursuing a research program centered on computer vision that will include designing and building models for a variety of tasks, including image classification, image segmentation, and image understanding. You will be challenged to build domain-specific models that will support MLRG’s research agenda, as well as Oracle’s product groups and business units.

You will also have the opportunity to leverage MLRG’s experience building transformer architectures for large language models and explore using those architectures for image recognition tasks as well as tackling multimodal understanding problems that combine images and text.

In addition to collaborating with other researchers in Oracle Labs and Oracle, we encourage you to be a part of the research community by participating in program committees for conferences, reviewing for conferences, and publishing about our research in those venues.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, or machine learning with a focus on image processing, video processing, scene understanding, or multimodal models
  • Publications at premier machine learning conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, or CVPR
  • Experience training image recognition models for a variety of tasks, especially experience training such models from scratch and distributing such training across multiple GPUs and multiple machines
  • Experience communicating scientific and technical ideas to a wide audience that includes technical and non-technical people
  • Proficiency with at least one deep learning library (PyTorch, Tensorflow, or Keras)
