Job Description

The Role

As a co-op student in this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced scientists, helping to build software prototypes that test new concepts in data capture, data flows, and data integration with various systems. Your goal will be to assist in the creation of prototypes that scientists can use to test functionality and iterate on designs and concepts. This role will require an inquisitive mindset, an eagerness to engage with scientists on early ideation and abstract concepts, combined with a drive to put ideas into practice.

This position will run from January 16th-June 14th, you must be available and on-site for the entire duration of the program.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to understand project requirements and help translate them into functional software prototypes.
  • Assist in the design, development, acquisition, and testing of software tools for structured data capture, automation, and data analysis in the life sciences domain.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of algorithms and data pipelines for processing and analyzing high-dimensional datasets, including data visualization, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation. 
  • Help prepare and present technical reports and project updates to stakeholders.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics or a related field. 
  • Coursework or project experience in data science, database engineering.
  • Advanced programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Java. 
  • Familiarity with databases and data storage technologies, such as SQL, NoSQL, HDF5, or NetCDF.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling techniques.
  • Experience working in a lab (wet lab experience is a plus).
  • Experience integrating analytical instruments into a data ecosystem is a plus.
  • Familiarity with lab automation equipment.
  • Experience with data science and machine learning tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or BioPython is a plus.
  • Experience with web development frameworks like Django, Flask, React, Angular, or Vue.js is a plus.
