The Role:

  • This role is an exciting opportunity to build out the Digital for Research Product Team at Moderna as we continue to support our growing Research portfolio. This is not your typical ELN Deployment Lead role; we need a big mind willing to tackle problems with big impact. The Digital for Research Product team is changing the way our scientists interact with technology through the introduction of structured data capture and streaming technologies, cutting edge machine learning solutions, and focused informatics tools. This role will partner with our scientists and be responsible for the product definition and tactical execution of workstreams in support of our Research portfolio. As a leader on the Digital for Research team, you will be a practitioner of Agile, an expert in requirement gathering practices, and be able to articulate the Business Problem to be solved for.
  • This position reports into the Director, Research Informatics and is based in Cambridge, MA.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with Research Science leads across our Science and Technology Platform as well as our individual Therapeutic Areas to define:
  • Priority business problems (data capture and analysis, workflow automation, critical processes, and data warehousing)
  • Stakeholders across Platform research (chemistry, formulations, biological sciences, non-clinical development) and Therapeutic Areas (Oncology, Rare Disease, Infectious Disease, Genetics and Autoimmunity)
  • Successful delivery of business benefit (metrics, design-thinking, personas, driving goals)
  • Lead workshops for the definition & collection of personas, epics, and user stories in the form of business requirements and success criteria
  • Author requirement documents to support our engineering team throughout their build cycle
  • Own and be accountable for the business demand for each sprint cycle
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering, Informatics, and Data Science teams to develop modern analytics, data capture, and data storage applications
  • Create, leverage, and present progress metrics to stakeholders across our Research environment
  • Apply traditional mechanisms for objection handling and negotiation of priority status coming from our Research stakeholders

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • You are comfortable acting as a product owner and enjoy interacting with your end users to drive product definition and execution in a fast-moving digital organization.
  • You understand and practice lean and user centered design methodologies.
  • You understand that data is the currency of the modern pharmaceutical organization and are comfortable being a data broker for your end users.
  • You are passionate about drug design and discovery to bring new medicines to patients.
  • You have at least 9 years’ experience in the definition, design, implementation, and support of solutions in one or multiple research science areas and are familiar with applications consumed by research scientists. (PerkinElmer, Genedata, IDBS, Benchling, ChemAxon, SciFinder)
  • You have experience defining, documenting, and supporting applications on an AWS stack and are comfortable with service-based architectures.
  • You have experience working in Jira and on a Scrum Team
  • You have demonstrable experience and comfort in a research science laboratory
  • You have a strong understanding of the Research cycle that is employed across the pharma industry
  • You put team before tasks by collaborating actively with all team members and supporting them. 
  • You work independently yet engage proactively with team members, colleagues, and stakeholders to get alignment and drive projects forward.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biotechnology or equivalent required, Masters or Ph.D. preferred
