The Role:

  • The Director, Digital Analytical Development will be responsible for assessing the digital needs of the Analytical Development team and implementing leading edge digital solutions to accelerate drug development and technology transfer. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the direction and digital vision of the company as we build world class analytical development and testing capabilities to further our mission of delivering transformational mRNA medicine to patients. Moderna is a cloud-first company and this role will balance building strong foundations, with implementing innovative new solutions that drive business value. With our strong pipeline, this position will play a key role partnering with our Analytical Development (AD) and Analytical Technical Operations (ATO) stakeholders to enable our systems and processes for long term success. This position will partner with the GxP Digital Team to ensure optimization of technologies between Analytical Development and Quality Control.
  • This role reports into the Sr. Director of Process & Analytical Development systems and is based in our Norwood, MA location.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Develop an innovative digital vision for Analytical Development aligned with business strategy
  • Develop a digital roadmap to provide a guiding execution plan to reach the digital vision
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining digital solutions for Analytical Development such as equipment integration with SDMS, LIMS, and other digital platforms
  • Hit the ground running immediately and partner closely with various business partners in Quality Control and Analytical Development to enable sustainable operations
  • Partner closely with stakeholders to understand their business processes to be able to define and articulate the business need
  • Partner with Digital teams to ensure a robust, optimized, and integrated digital landscape
  • Partner with the Data Science and AI team to develop novel AI algorithms to automate workflows and analyses.
  • Develop creative solutions using robotics, lab automation, and equipment integration that help Analytical Development measurably improve outcomes
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team and with stakeholders
  • Question the status quo, leveraging both new technologies and creative solutions within existing systems
  • Participate in the execution of complex, integrated projects, proactively identifying risks and mitigation strategies, while communicating to stakeholders and driving timelines
  • Participate on digital management teams to implement efforts and projects to meet evolving business needs
  • Apply an operational excellence mindset to help identify, devise, and recommend new opportunities to optimize current processes
  • Ensure data integrity is prioritized in the design, delivery, and maintenance of all systems
  • Serve as a change agent to engage and educate the business owners on the capability and functionality of the solutions with a focus on value stream optimization

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, engineering or computer science, MBA or PhD is a plus
  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting analytical development technology or quality control laboratory integration solutions, and working in a GMP environment
  • Data Integrity focused mindset
  • Strong understanding of core laboratory system workflows, quality control laboratory systems and/or analytical development laboratory systems, including data integrity regulations, instrument integration and laboratory digital workflow optimization
  • Experience working with high throughput liquid handling systems
  • Experience with Laboratory Execution Systems, LIMS, ELN, SaaS based applications, etc.
  • Experience working with and supporting custom built software solutions
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced, startup-like environment
  • Experience in defining, scoping and managing technology initiatives
  • Strong knowledge GAMP and GxP compliance regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization and lead teams to reach a common goal
