Job Description

In this role, you will be the hands-on driver of key use cases on the applications of quantum computing and a leader in assessing and establishing the benefits of near-future quantum computers with our external partners and collaborators. You will assess complex scientific problems in a range of settings and will identify ways to apply quantum and classical algorithms to these problems. You will help educate and train other quantitative scientists in the fundamentals of using quantum computing, while rigorously assessing the benefits of quantum versus classical computing.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • The candidate will drive efforts to assess quantum algorithms for near-future quantum computers, propose how existing algorithms can be used for current applications, and will lead enterprise collaborations that target our real-world use cases for quantum processing.
  • Identify, test, simulate, and help develop quantum algorithms that promise quantum advantages in practice and at scale.
  • Interface with external partners as needed for you to execute the relevant use cases/applications
  • Work with external algorithms researchers on extending and implementing quantum algorithms with an emphasis on achieving better-than-classical performances on currently available quantum hardware
  • Travel 5-10%
  • Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • PhD in Quantum Physics, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or related field
  • 6 years post-PhD, with at least 3 years work experience outside of a post-doc
  • Record of published work in quantum algorithms, quantum information science, particle or condensed matter theory, or computational physics
  • Proficiency with Python

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of Qiskit, Q#, Cirq, PennyLane, or similar
  • The ability to collaborate effortlessly and verbally communicate scientific results and complex concepts to domain experts and non-experts.
  • Knowledge of quantum mechanics, quantum algorithms, quantum circuits, modeling, multivariate statistics, and machine learning.
  • Understanding of key mathematical techniques used in quantum computing, including the ability to explain cases where quantum algorithms can show advantage over classical methods, and why.
  • Wide exposure to quantum algorithms and applications with an interest in applying quantum algorithms to solve real-world problems, with demonstrated experience developing and optimizing algorithms to increase performance e.g., time-to-solution, fidelity, accuracy
  • Subject matter expertise in an application area, such as: chemistry, pharma/healthcare, or operations research
  • Experience with traditional cloud computing environments, use of quantum computing cloud platforms (Amazon Braket, Azure Quantum)
  • Familiarity with simulation, optimization techniques, state-of-the-art machine learning tools.
  • Familiarity with the quantum hardware platforms fundamentals, applications, and providers (superconducting qubits, trapped ions, neutral atoms, photonics processors, quantum annealers).
  • Research in NISQ quantum algorithms
  • Working knowledge of software development practices
  • A desire to make an impact as part of a high-growth, transformational company that is Bold, Relentless, Curious, and Collaborative.
