The Role:

  • This role is an exciting opportunity to build out the Digital for Research Product Team at Moderna as we continue to support our growing Computational and Data Science ecosystem. The Product Owner for Computational and Data Science will partner with members of our research community and be responsible for the product definition and strategy across our Research portfolio relating to Computational and Data Science products, capabilities, and services. As a leader on the Digital for Research team, you will be a practitioner of Agile, an expert in requirement gathering practices, and be able to articulate the Business Problem to be solved for.
  • This position reports into the Director, Research Informatics and is based in Cambridge, MA.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with Computational and Data Science leads across our Science and Technology Platform as well as our individual Therapeutic Areas. Your main goals will be to enable the Discovery, Development and Deploy Cycles producing solutions that leverage modern capabilities including:
  • Computational and Data Science methods & tools (R/R-studio, JMP, Python)
  • Bio- and cheminformatics pipelines and services
  • AWS infrastructure for data sharing and exposure
  • Lead workshops for the definition and collection of personas, epics, and user stories in the form of business requirements and success criteria
  • Author requirement documents to support our engineering team throughout their build cycles
  • Own and be accountable for the business demand for each sprint cycle
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering, Informatics, IT, and Data Science teams to develop analytics, data pipelines, and services
  • Create, leverage, and present progress metrics to stakeholders across our Research environment
  • Apply traditional mechanisms for objection handling and negotiation of priority status coming from our Research stakeholders

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Fundamentally, you are a Product Owner who enjoys interacting with your end users and can drive product definition and execution in a fast-moving digital organization.
  • You understand and practice lean and user centered design methodologies.
  • You are passionate about drug design and discovery and bringing new medicines to patients. 
  • You have at least 9 years’ experience in the definition, design, implementation, and support of solutions in one or multiple Computational and Data science areas and are familiar with applications consumed by research scientists in this space.
  • You have experience supporting, documenting, and defining applications on an AWS stack and are fluent in service-based architectures.
  • You are comfortable working in JIRA and in a SCRUM Methodology
  • You have experience supporting and working with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments/solutions
  • You have a strong understanding of the Research cycle that is employed across the pharma industry.
  • You put team before tasks by collaborating actively with all team members and supporting them. 
  • You work independently yet engage proactively with team members, colleagues, and stakeholders to get alignment and drive projects forward. 
  • You don't hesitate to dive in and work alongside the team.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biotechnology or equivalent required, Masters or Ph.D. preferred
