Job Description

The Role:

  • Moderna’s Informatics organization is growing! We’re looking for multiple Senior Software Engineers who will report to an Informatics Team Lead in one of three different teams:
  • The Architecture & DevOps team is looking for someone to help design & build the next generation of cloud infrastructure that will power Moderna’s internal and external facing custom applications
  • The Research & Clinical team is expanding a suite of custom applications focused on experiment design, data capture, and results analysis that will enable our researchers to derive insight from experimental data at scale. You will have the opportunity to also work with our Data Science & AI team to enable their efforts for machine learning assisted drug design. In addition, we are building a world-class clinical forecasting and inventory management system, which will be a driving force behind the execution of Moderna’s clinical trials for the next 10+ years.
  • The Preclinical & Technical Development team is focused on high throughput synthesis of mRNA through robotics automation, as well as custom software that enable our process engineers to translate small scale discoveries to clinical grade materials that feed into our clinical trials.

  • The tech stack is all the same across the roles, just the projects and focus areas that will differ. Depending on your preference and which team you fit best with in terms of culture, you could be based in either our Cambridge, MA or Norwood, MA site. Either way, you’ll get to mentor more junior Engineers and continue to learn yourself, as you advance your career in Software Engineering and help build internal applications that drive our ability to deliver life-saving therapeutics for patients!

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with product owners to understand business needs and design solutions
  • Develop full stack JavaScript / TypeScript web applications as part of a team
  • Deploy cloud-based applications to AWS using Docker
  • Build innovative and intuitive applications to transform business processes
  • Integrate applications with instruments to drive automation and collect data
  • Deliver solutions to users in an extremely rapid, agile cycle
  • Contribute to many different projects in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
  • Work independently to deliver complex features and improvements
  • Collaborate with other team members and provide guidance to other members of the team

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 5-8 years of experience
  • Experience working in Life Sciences, pharma/biotech, or related scientific field preferred
  • Deep experience in full stack web application development. Node.js and Angular 10+ preferred
  • Experience with SQL and modeling relational databases. PostgreSQL experience preferred
  • Experience with web user interface design using HTML, CSS, and Modern JavaScript/TypeScript libraries
  • Deep experience using / designing web services and REST APIs
  • Expert in software development best practices: agile, unit/integration testing, Git
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work directly with users to understand requirements
  • Experience with Docker and AWS technologies like EC2, S3, SQS, etc.
