As a Senior Manager of Data Science within the enterprise Applied Machine Learning team, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a team of data scientists applying innovative statistical and machine learning methods to dive into the largest and most complex data across the enterprise providing deep insight into every aspect of the business and products the Applied ML team supports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in providing technical and analytic thought leadership for a team that drives a data-grounded perspective to help Best Buy think critically about some of the most important strategic efforts currently underway with the goal of unleashing the next generation of customer experiences and building better machine learning driven products that will help transform the way Best Buy operates day-to-day.

  • Leading a team of data scientists applying scientific methods to solve real-world business problems using data
  • Providing technical thought leadership to a team leveraging cutting edge statistical and machine learning methods to dig deep into complex data to deliver data-driven solutions across all areas of the business including search, personalization, marketing, cybersecurity, etc
  • Employing broad and deep knowledge of statistics, analytics, and machine learning to contribute to and enhance Best Buy’s core data science capabilities
  • Working with business and product partners to identify the biggest opportunities to bring Best Buy to the next level and influence key decisions around real products that impact and improve the lives of millions of people

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research, etc) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of at least one focus area of data science (e.g. statistics, operations research, design and analysis of experiments, machine learning, quantitative analysis, etc)
  • Strong data mining skills with ability to leverage distributed processing to scale to big data
  • Ability to direct data science technical efforts for a team working to answer some of Best Buy’s most difficult questions
  • Fluency with at least one data science/analytics programming language (e.g. Python, R, Julia)
  • 6 years of experience in data science, data analysis, data mining or other similar business functions. Advanced degrees in relevant fields may be counted towards experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research, etc)
  • 2 years of experience leading data science technical efforts and/or teams
  • Experience using high performance machine learning and/or data mining frameworks
  • Experience building distributed data processing pipelines (e.g. Apache Spark, Apache Beam)
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide spectrum of cross-functional team members
  • Experience mentoring and coaching junior team members
