Analytics starts with having the right data. As a Data Steward, you will be working with business, analytics, and technology partners to ensure we have the right data needed to build analytics and insights to make key business decisions. Specifically, we are looking for a Marketing Data Steward to ensure we have the right data for measurement of our marketing. As business needs evolve, we need to ensure we are capturing the right data that can be leveraged to measure the financial impact of our marketing.

Key responsibilities of the Data Steward:

The Marketing Data Steward is an integral part of the overall Data Quality and Effectiveness pillar of the Data Enablement capability at Best Buy. They will be responsible for discovery, documentation, and ongoing improvement in the quantity, quality, and effectiveness of the subject area(s) this individual is supporting as well as more broadly across the enterprise. Typical work includes creating, monitoring, and publishing KPIs for data quality, developing reference documents and/or process maps to show how data flows across systems to assist in knowledge transfers, and defining standards and best practices for data analysis and queries.

This role will carry out six key responsibilities:

  • Working with Analytics, understand the data needs/gaps to fulfill future measurement needs.
  • Develop plans on how to fulfill current gaps and prioritize fulfilling gaps. This includes identifying dependencies on others and gaining alignment to fulfill those gaps.
  • Manage execution of plans to close current gaps.
  • Monitor existing and future data to ensure high data quality. When data quality issues arise, work cross-functionally to correct data.
  • Monitor data usage to assist teams, share best practice trends in data use, and provide insight into how and where teams can use data to help in day-to-day decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance and security of the data. Data stewards are responsible for protecting the data—while providing information on potential risks and offering regulatory guidance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years or more experience in retail, analytics, business, or related area
  • 3 or more years of experience writing SQL.
  • 2 years or more experience applying analytical techniques to answer business questions or scientific questions
  • 2 or more years of experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to present insights and storytelling with data to business partners/leaders
  • Four-year bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, computer science, or related quantitative discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science areas
  • 2 or more years of experience using digital analytics tools (e.g. Adobe or Google Analytics)
  • 2 or more years of experience/familiarity with querying and data mining with SQL (Big Query, Hive, etc.)
  • 1 or more years of experience with R, Python, or other advanced analytics programming languages
  • 1 or more years of experience working in cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure)
  • Prior experience working with marketing data
