Job Description

Our Research Laboratories’ Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.

An opportunity has arisen for a post-doc position in the Data Science and Informatics group, Pharmaceutical Sciences Organization. The role will be to focus on innovative R&D in AI and machine learning (AI/ML) for drug development and discovery at our company's Research Labs. Our projects aim to make an impact on an entire scientific culture at our company and involve in advanced predictive modelling, computer vision, signal processing, probabilistic reasoning, and more.

In this role you will have a chance to interact with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and peer post-docs to broadly understand AI/ML applications at our Research & Development Division. You will apply and advance the state-of-the-art data science technology to build operational solutions that span the scientific, executional, and operations spaces. Among a few AI/ML applications, you will conduct R&D in computer vision for scene understanding and anomaly detection. One key problem to be addressed is relational data inference or object/factor interaction. The AI/ML toolkit will be organized into software library which can potentially be leveraged to different functional areas. As in the standard R&D practice, benchmarking against the state-of-the-art methodology is in scope of this role.

Reporting into the Pharmaceutical Operations and Clinical Supplies Organization (POCS) the successful candidate will bring energy, knowledge, innovation to carry out the following:

  • Develop novel algorithms in statistical and computational machine learning (ML), including deep learning, at different scales suitable and explainable for problems and data of varying size and quality (e.g., missing data).
  • Understand deeply the strength and weakness of both conventional and new ML algorithms from different research communities, and then innovate the solutions for mathematically formulated problems.
  • Publish innovative work in top ML and pharmaceutical conferences and journals.
  • Independently and in teams build and test data science solutions for drug discovery and/or development.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data science, ML, and statistical analysis.

Minimum education required:

  • A Ph.D. Degree or equivalent completed, or you will have completed your Ph.D. within the next year.

Required experience and skills:

  • Education and or related experience in statistical and computational ML (Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences).
  • Strong and broad knowledge of ML and statistics, with the ability to deep dive as well as converse at high technical level with architects and senior scientists. Computer Vision and/or other deep learning experience is a must.
  • Strong coding skills in one of the following: python and/or R, including pytorch or tensorflow, for aspects of data engineering, ML, and statistical modeling and analysis.

Preferred experience and skills:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong communication/presentation skills and publication record
