GEICO is on a multi-year journey to re-platform the Insurance industry, removing friction across Customers, Partners, Marketplace, Segments, Channels, and Experiences. The Data Streaming team is at the heart of accomplishing this mission, building the streaming infrastructure that enables data streams from various systems internally and externally.

The Data Streaming team enables the success of the company with creation of data platforms which in turn would facilitate the acquisition and movement of data to all parts of the business, business intelligence and reporting platforms. This enables data users access to internal and external data in near real-time or batch mode. In addition, the streaming platform will allow data subscribers access to data on a periodic basis. Such access to data we believe will help decision makers to cross-link data across our businesses and provide better experience to consumers. This team will partner heavily with teams in product engineering, Data Engg., marketing, lines of businesses, and machine learning and data science teams to accomplish their goals. The leader we hire will build a versatile team skilled in secure and scalable data streaming infrastructure based on industry standard frameworks like Redpanda/Kafka, Airbyte, Apache Spark/Flink on K8s, schema validation, robust runtime framework for clients, reliable runtime access to data through APIs and frameworks, creation of CDCs; and transition us from the current state of data silos and monolithic architectures to a modern data access stack.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Thought leader in data streaming and usage across use cases for analytics and AIML
  • Develop and own relationships with your business partners, engineering, marketing, and product management.
  • Partner with the business to co-author strategies and tactics to enable flow of data across the company.
  • Grow the team over the coming year by advocating for additional resourcing and hiring into new open positions.
  • Present the vision and strategic recommendations with clarity and concision to stakeholders having varying degrees of data fluency.
  • Manage and prioritize requests from partners and set realistic expectations. Transparently communicate about priorities on a regular basis.
  • Enhance the team's abilities to report on performance, focus on impact, and provide transparency about critical workstreams.
  • Identify emerging trends in big data of which leaders should be aware. Develop ways to utilize and organize our data to guide big strategic decisions.
  • Be accountable to the leadership of Data & Analytics for your success.

Required Experience:

  • Deep experience building data streaming at scale with high reliability and security.
  • Has a deep expertise to compare and contrast tech stacks; chose the right stack for GEICO and execute on it
  • Ability to influence stakeholders through a combination of savviness and deep insights.
  • Experience building software artifacts, APIs, subscriptions with a clear view to migrate users from traditional environments.
  • Experience providing various interfaces to data users for accessing data in interactive, batch and reporting environments.
  • A thought leader who can providing strategic guidance and decision support.
  • A creative and innovative problem solver and storyteller with data, comfortable with helping partners think and solve difficult business challenges.
  • You thrive on partnership and can build the bridge between the requirements of the business and the needed data and analytics to help the business reach their goals.
  • Have consistently coached different data engineering roles (e.g data engineers, software developers, business intelligence, etc.) of your teams and growing leadership (managers and senior individual contributors) on your teams throughout your career.
  • Familiarity with data engineering technologies including Java, Python, SQL, ETL, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto, Hybrid Cloud, Data Lake, Machine Learning & AI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, other pure sciences disciplines, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in building large-scale platforms with a focus on performance, scalability, and solving big data problems for large enterprises.
  • 10+ years of experience in building and managing teams in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Understanding of the current hybrid-multi-cloud technology stack with the ability to creatively leverage services driving toward cost-efficient and performant applications.
  • Mathematical sophistication, intellectual curiosity, and an understanding of AI and Machine Learning would be strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of high-performance system architecture is strongly desired.
  • Domain depth in marketing automation, consumer experience, computational advertising, analytics, and complex environments would be ideal to hit the ground running.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills - verbal and written are essential.

Annual Salary

$195,000.00 - $315,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
