In the Data Engineer Development track, you will learn how GEICO is using data as a competitive advantage in the insurance industry: 

  • Collaborate with data scientists, architects, and engineers on the big data ecosystem that enables our team to build efficiency and improve our customers’ experience
  • Work on data ingestion, consumption, and web service features 
  • Contribute to significant business initiatives, attend scrum meetings, and give presentations 
  • Leverage open-source and cloud native technologies to build solutions that further the vision of the organization 
  • Contribute to areas such as Model Deployment Frameworks, Machine Learning Platform Automation, Front-end Development, Data Visualization, and Data Engineering 
  • Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 
  • Solve difficult problems, learn new technologies, and push the boundaries of what is possible 
  • Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems 
  • Working with Product, understand and build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle 
  • Take part in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization 
  • Work with Senior Engineers to define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective 
  • Utilize programming languages like .NET, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services 
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across team

Candidate Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or other relevant engineering major with a focus on data, obtained by May 2024 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (please upload ALL transcripts as part of the application process) 
  • Advanced coursework and hands-on experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, data-centric projects, and core computer science concepts 
  • Hands-on experience with user requirements, web applications, coding reviews and code quality 
  • Strong coding skills, with the ability to produce high quality code that is reusable and repeatable without being overly complex 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, programming and written and verbal English communication skills 
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development lifecycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication) 
  • Basic understanding of existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal 
  • Basic understanding of HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, and RESTful Web Services 
  • Basic understanding of Monitoring Tools and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
  • Basic understanding of Powershell scripting 
  • Well-rounded experiences outside of the classroom with different technologies, resulting in projects that demonstrate strong engineering skills and abilities
  • Previous professional data engineering internship preferred 

Program associates will primarily work remotely but will be asked to visit GEICO office locations for team collaboration events as needed.

Candidate will participate in a technical skills assessment and multi-dimensional interviews as part of the selection process.

Benefits may be different by location.  Benefit eligibility requirements vary and may include length of service. 

Coverage begins on the date of hire. Must enroll in New Hire Benefits within 30 days of the date of hire for coverage to take effect. 

Annual Salary

$60,000.00 - $132,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
