Responsibilities

Who are you?

You are a hands-on and seasoned cybersecurity practitioner and team leader with an analytical mindset. You can draw on both a keen understanding of cyber adversaries and their tradecraft, as well as leverage an analysis and data science background to merge the two disciplines for innovative results. You are a industry connected and recognized thought leader and collaborator, well-versed in data engineering, cyber data and telemetry, as well as mathematical and analytical approaches, including traditional statistical analyses, graph analytic approaches, and machine learning approaches (i.e., supervised learning, unsupervised learning, etc.) applied to cyber analyses challenges.

What are your Responsibilities?

You must be a cross-discipline and technical leader who can hit the ground running, quickly integrate, and build a team, leveraging the power of advanced analytics to provide insight and strategic advantage to our cyber defenders every day. You must lead the team in data collection and aggregation across a diverse set of sensors and data, designing not only the analytical solution, but also the data architecture to enable this. You integrate threat and risk intelligence to prioritize analytical products that matter most to defending PNNL. You will guide your team in technical strategy but also serve as a mentor and people leader, creating a highly impactful, collaborative, and effective team, connected to PNNL's mission, and taking pride in their role defending PNNL from our cyber adversaries.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree and educational coursework in Computer Science, Math, Data Science, or Software Engineering
  • Have one or more industry standard certifications related to cyber analysis and security operations (e.g., OSCP, OSEP, PNPT, GPEN)
  • Cybersecurity Operations, SOC analyst, Cyber Defender
  • Red teaming, adversary emulation, and tools such as Cobalt Strike, Metasploit, Canvas, etc.
  • Threat intelligence and adversary exploitation capabilities and technique, tactics and procedures (TTPs)
  • Demonstrated track record delivering cyber analytical insights through the application of AI/ML, Graph Analytics, etc.
  • Data visualization experience and ability to present data in graphical form and stories
  • Leading a cyber operations team or technical capability
  • All-source cyber intelligence analysis and fusion experience
  • Setting a technical vision and strategy, followed by execution and delivery of same
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Executive presence and ability to communicate and present technical topics to non-technical audiences at all levels of leadership
  • Strong technical collaboration and partnering skills, able to work with internal and external staff as well as researchers and staff across the laboratory

Additional Information

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. 

Requirements: 

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP). 

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

Testing Designated Position

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
