(AAIS) Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a driven, detail-oriented, energetic, and professional project manager

to help us shape the future of today!

At PNNL, the AAIS group is focused on addressing important and complex national security problems through the deployment of cutting

edge data science capabilities. For this specific position, you will be providing support for a growing portfolio of projects that leverage

artificial intelligence to better understand complex global systems through information extraction and reasoning. This position requires a

proactive approach to problem solving and demonstrates creativity/initiative in addressing new challenges.

  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of effective project management practices and principles and demonstrates proficiency
  • in applying a disciplined approach to project management.
  • Provide effective leadership and direction for mid-sized, complex projects that require drawing on resources from across the Lab and managing associated with integration of multiple analytical tools and institutions.
  • Build and lead interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and communications with funding sponsors and external stakeholders.
  • Track progress against established project milestones and budgets, execute change control processes as needed, and ensure delivery of high quality deliverables.
  • Partner with research staff on proposal development, including definition of scope, schedules, budget, and risk assessment.
  • Regularly communicate with key internal stakeholders, including Relationship Managers and Project Management Office Directors, and Line Managers to ensure.
  • Maintain knowledge competency in project management principals and industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior project managers and leverage role as a project manager to facilitate career development of other staff.
  • Manages with integrity to lead task and project plan development, build cohesive teams, and steward process improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 9+ years of relevant project management experience -OR-
  • MS/MA or higher and 7+ years of relevant project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in data science, mathematics, computer science or chem-bio related field
  • A track record of working with subject matter experts, engineers, and scientists
  • Experience working in or familiarity with natural language processing, computer vision, and/or generative artificial intelligence
  • Previous project management experience, including training in Project Management and Agile/continuous improvement development
  • Basic understanding of Data Science and One Health

Additional Information

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

Testing Designated Position

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

Please be aware that the Department of Energy (DOE) prohibits DOE employees and contractors from having any affiliation with the foreign government of a country DOE has identified as a “country of risk” without explicit approval by DOE and Battelle.
