Roles & Responsibilities:
The Roussos lab at the Center for Disease Neurogenomics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is actively seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician II Research Scientist to join our team. We are focused on the fields of single-cell brain genomics, machine learning, and neurodegenerative disorders. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and talented individual who is passionate about applying their skills at the intersection of human disease and genetics. As a successful candidate, you will be part of a dedicated focus group working on the development of machine learning algorithms to unravel the genetic architecture and etiopathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease(AD). Our research involves utilizing multi-scale single-cell profiles of brain transcriptome and regulome affected by Alzheimer disease. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop novel computational methods for modeling single-cell transcriptome and regulome at different scales, as well as apply state-of-the-art computational tools for omics data analysis and integration. Potential projects may include investigating the impact of human brain immune cells on AD biology, studying neuropsychiatric disorders, deep manifold learning of disease progression, large-scale integration of multi-omic single-cell profiles, and exploring other open questions in single-cell brain omics. This position offers a chance to develop or enhance your skills in single-cell genomics, machine learning, and big data analytics. You will be working alongside an interdisciplinary team consisting of clinicians, wet lab scientists, bioinformaticians, statistical geneticists, and computational biologists. We provide a stimulating and flexible research environment that promotes career advancement, offering the freedom to pursue your interests, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and providing an excellent salary. The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, mathematics, biophysics, biochemistry, immunology, computer science, or a related field. Strong proficiency and experience in one or more of the following areas are essential: single-cell genomics, machine learning, multi-variable statistics, open-source software development, or bioinformatics. Additionally, excellent programming skills using Python or R, effective communication skills, and a self-motivated and independent approach are highly desirable.
