Roles & Responsibilities:

The Scientific Computing and Data group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai partners with scientists to accelerate scientific discovery with the overarching goal of improving clinical care. To achieve these aims, we support a cutting-edge high-performance computing and data ecosystem along with MD/PhD-level support for researchers. The group is composed of a high-performance computing team, the research clinical data warehouse team and a research data services team.

The Senior Project Manager will actively lead, plan and direct strategic projects for Scientific Computing and report directly to the Dean. These Sinai-specific and NIH-funded projects are at the intersection of computer, computational and data science and biomedical translational research and the incumbent will effectively communicate to all stakeholders. The incumbent will be fluent in modern project management best practices, techniques and software. Specific duties are listed below.

  • Directs and drives the progress and deliverables for national, regional and local projects. Ensures that projects are completed on scope, schedule and budget. Analyses and communicates risk. Identifies and tracks milestones, deliverables and change requests.
  • Keeps track of many simultaneous and diverse projects/action items simultaneously.
  • Prepares strategic plans, roadmaps, reports, presentations and other documents for senior leadership. Oversees all Scientific Computing content for the website, workshops and beyond.
  • Troubleshoots issues and proposes solutions to ensure constant progress and project completion.
  • Utilizes data-driven decision-making.
  • Proactively anticipate and/or identify issues, assess impacts, communicate status, facilitate/drive the development of solutions, regardless of whether the issues are related to technical limitations, resources, staffing or prioritization.
  • Proactively communicates with and manages the expectations of all stakeholders including senior leadership. Tailors communication approach, types and message based on audience (senior leaders, team members, other stakeholders).
  • Ensures appropriate use of common sense, traditional, modern Agile, Software Development Life Cycle practices, management methods and software tools.
  • Utilizes clear communication and enthusiasm to motivate team members.
  • Prepares milestones, budgets, risk documents for grant proposals.
  • May oversee other project managers.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; PMP and Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience & Required Skills:
    • 10 years of diverse experience in multiple areas of technology and/or in a specific basic or translational science with at least five years as a project manager
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences
    • Ability to create and give presentation
    • Use analytical ability, strong judgment and management skills to troubleshoot and find paths forward
    • Ability to understand and explain technical details
    • Ability to troubleshoot any issues and propose multiple solutions
    • Highly-organized and detail-oriented: ability to keep track of many simultaneous projects and action items
    • Assertive, goal- and task-oriented
    • Energetic and able to motivate team members
    • Experience driving projects successfully and consistently to conclusion on scope, schedule and budget
    • The ability to work effectively as a liaison between both basic science researchers, healthcare, technology, senior leadership and vendor teams
    • Demonstrated excellence in the creation of traditional project plans, the creation of diagrams, presentations, and other relevant documentation
    • Demonstrated experience and training in an Agile methodology, preferably as a scrum master, team lead, or similar
    • Self-driven and proactive
    • Experience with managing all stages of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from project initiation, design, development, delivery, and operational support
    • Experience managing test driven software development, continuous integration / continuous deployment and DevOps processes
    • Experience with project management and other software tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Project
    • Strong preference for experience working with researchers, clinicians, computer, data and computational scientists and senior leadership

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $109,000.00 - $163,695.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
